Asian food really lacks something we have in Wisconsin. Cheese, of course. I enjoy eating piles of it. I figured that Koreans weren't into dairy products because they don't have the right land to support the million cows there are in WI.

I came across this:

Quote:
Lactose intolerance is extremely common. Certain racial and ethnic populations are more affected than others, including 50% of Hispanics; 75% of African Americans, Jews, and Native Americans; and 90% of some Asian populations.

I was thinking Koreans are into kimchi and not cheese because of environment. WebMD suggests it is hereditary. I am not convinced it is entirely genetic.

When I was a kid, I used to get pretty sick from milk, but I guess my parents just kept on feeding it to me. I still drink milk now with little ill-effect. But more than a couple cups in one sitting will probably result in a pretty dramatic trip to the bathroom.

Lactose intolerance is a good thing, because lactose is bad for you. There is a new comprehensive study that looked at people who drink milk. Supposedly they had greater bone loss than when they didn't drink milk. I think there are a numerous amount of reasons that support lactose not being very good. It's better to eat yogurt, cheese and products where the lactose is already broken down or lacking completely altogether.

Lactose intolerance is normal. It's tolerance to lactose that is not normal. Milk is for babies. It is not real food. If you stop all dairy for a few years, you can't really go back to eating it because the body wont' allow it.
