A classic example of the flight of British talent was George Turnbull, who had run the Austin-Morris division of the nationalised British Leyland car giant in the early Seventies. Infuriated by endless strikes, Turnbull left for South Korea, taking five engineers with him.

Today, the Korean company they built up, Hyundai, is the world’s fourth-biggest vehicle-maker. And the British company they left behind? It no longer exists.

So Hyundai was built by a Brit! Surprised

Laughing
The Daily Mail. Always bending the truth to suit their bigoted, biased views.

Turnbull was brought in by Hyundai on a short term contract to create their first cars.
British Leyland was mismanaged for years, leading to poor quality cars, and eventual collapse. The strikes, while not helping, were not the sole reason for BL's failure.

That's a really weird article, even by the low standards of the Daily Reich. Interesting to read about the car engineers though, they must have had an interesting time of it here in the 70s.

Hyundai shipbuilding got started out with a 60 million dollar loan from Barclays bank, having previously been rejected by Swiss and French banks. Chung Yu Jung persuaded the Barclays people that Koreans could build ships by showing them a 500 won banknote with a turtle ship on it. I don't suppose the Daily Mail will start slagging off Barclays though, wouldn't fit their narrative.
