Coincidence or calculated attacks? It's happened frequently on here, yet has never ever happened on any other mb I post on.

The reason it doesn't happen at other message boards is because they generally use recent, updated software. Whereas this place uses the 2004 vintage.
I've received the message or similar ones. Someone posted a convincing reason as to why it is a bot. It actually may have been Steelrails. He showed some other boards that had the same problem. |

Ttompatz has suggested it was before with links to it happening elsewhere; rails fool latched onto that idea to explain it away. Either way, it is bullshit to continually get these pms if you use this board (even only if it is occasionally like I do).

I have got the same mad messages, about four times via PM -- each time though, the messages get more and more bizarre and threatening.
I didn't mention it on board, because whoever does it, clearly gets a kick out of it -- is it a riled up right wing ajoshi or ultra nationalistic high school kid?
Or maybe it's none of the above, and it's just bot generated spam somehow.
I tend to think it's bot generated -- if you do a google search, you find lots of boards have the exact same message -- but, the only thing that makes me think it COULD be a real person, is that each message I get sent gets more and more severe.
If it's a real person I do not want to give him the benefit of enjoying the effects of it though...
The PMs I get are from mjskor395_33 -- I have reported it to Dave Sperling, and suggest you all do the same.

Weird how the message tends to show up if you'd made a comment recently that didn't paint the morning calm place with a fine haired brush as well. |

Did you report it to Dave? I definitely think we all should -- if it's real, the guy needs help or to be charged with harassment.
The internet is full of 'fast and loose' trolls and people looking for an argument or to insult -- I have no problems with that. That is normal to anyone who has used the net at all in the last decade.
But -- this is different -- out and out INSANE death threats are not of the same league as 'troll flaming' harmless stuff, and need to be dealt with.
The PMs I got were off the scale threats. |

Nah, I brush them off. This place jumped the shark a long time ago. It used to be a reasonable place to shoot the shit. Sometime in the late 2000s it got heavy handed and you had to be careful with what you posted here or would get shown the door.
Things loosened up for a few years, but then recently fell back to tighter regs if you aren't one of them.
The "bot" death threat pms only started showing up in the last couple of years (about the same time moderation became non existent). I don't take them seriously (likely some dork that got butt hurt and would never encounter people irl). |

| My guess is that is down to those lunatics on Koreansentry. They have a real hate boner for this site and all esl teachers. I've received a couple after making criticisms about Korea. I doubt it was a coincidence. |

I have reported it to Dave Sperling and I am asking him to report the guy's net history and ads to the police -- I am not worried in the slightest by the **** that sent it -- but I will say that the messages I got were out and out murder threats, nothing ambiguous about them. And each one got more and more hysterical and blood thirsty in tone. That will be reported to the police. The Korean police are not interested in helping us out, or lending us a sympathetic ear, I have no illusion about that -- but this kind of thing is a bad image for Korea when they are trying to present a 'softer' face to the world.
Hopefully Dave will nail the ****** via tracing his web activity path. It's very easily done. |

The blogger is an idiot and paranoid.
It's a bot. Just google the messages, you will find the exact same messages everywhere. Tons of forums, blogs etc.
This isn't rocket science. On the paranoid expat would read anything else in to it. Where is it you all went to school again? You do actually have post-secondary education right? |

Look at it logically. The exact, word for word, same message is sent via PM on forums, blogs and websites all over the internet. The subject focus of those sites range across the gamut. It's not as though only Korean ESL sites are getting them.
Sometimes I think the dislike of Korea, or bitterness, or whatever, clouds people's judgement here.
