I want a Maine Coon, or a Norwegian Forest cat. They are fluffy and awesome looking. I've heard that both of those breeds are extremely smart kittahs. |
They're also the size of a small dog, so you might be able to combine the normal Korean cat-eye-terror with the standard issue dog-heavier-than-eight-pounds terror. Basically, you'd have a Doberman in a smaller package. |

Not wanting to eat kimchi? That's why this child was beaten by her teacher in Songdo.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AHJCgvRfU-4
As for the OP's article, I feel sorry for the student there too. When the teacher starts to single out students like she did, she if effectively labeling the student wangta and calling open season on her. The other classmates likely teased and harassed the girl endlessly.
As for kimchi, I don't blame her for not wanting to eat it. Most of the kimchi served in Korea comes from China now and I wouldn't trust any food from that country. They have a notoriously bad reputation for food safety. |

I'm seriously thinking all this teacher craziness has to do with the peanut lady and her generation.
Today, I had to curse out one parent that I have dealt with kindly for nearly 2 years. I just couldn't take it anymore.
This 30-40 generation in South Korea needs to be put across a lap and beaten to a pulp--to make up for years of piss-poor parenting.
So, I honestly think it's just a whole messy generation of 30-40 year olds creating a mess for the whole nation.
This of course doesn't excuse such horrible behavior from a teacher to a child AT ALL. However, it seems to just make sense with the horrible temperament of the main age group dealing with education these days. (Yes, I know the teacher in question isn't between 30-40. I'm saying the whole atmosphere seems to be created, however, by the 30-40 lunatics.)
Oh yeah, and I'm also venting. Sorry to the OP if I'm too off subject. |

Worth reading for the wider context of race here -- some of the comments under the article ( written by white people, black people, other Asians, and Kyopos ) are spot on --
''South Korea’s Racism Debate
Foreigners are often quick to claim that South Korea has a significant racism problem. But the vocal views of many English teachers overshadow a complex issue. ''

I still say there is more to that story about the poor school kid than they are telling us in the OPs newspaper article link -- no one needs therapy and monetary compensation after being told off ( even thrice, no less! ) for asking questions, or for not liking Kimchi.
It has to be more than that -- it's just the surface. |

Love the analogy at the end of the article:
The country is like a battered child trying to grow up....puhahahaha |

That article, and especially the comments, taught me a lot about the reality of life here. Before, I thought I may have been over sensitive, or projecting, but after reading that, I saw how many people felt the same as I did and had experienced similar antagonism here.
The comments are just spot on. |

I suggest compulsory re-education camps and therapy for Koreans over 45. |

And that is a reasonable and humane reponse. |

‘Little PSY’ Subject of Online Racial Hatred --
''Hwang Min-woo, popularly known as ‘Little PSY’ for his stint in the Gangnam Style music video, has been catapulted into the limelight. The boy’s multicultural background (his mother is a naturalised Korean from Vietnam) attracted the attention of Ilbe which mounted a high-profile hate-campaign this week. Given the track-record of Ilbe’s kulturkampf and their unabashed xenophobic stance, this fray with the 9-year old is likely to continue until some form of legal intervention takes place.''

Does anyone know what the teacher was actually charged with?
What offence? |

White foreigners may not experience the same kind of racism that southeast Asians experience, but racism is still racism no matter what kind. When you walk around with your Korean wife and someone comes up to her and yells, "You are betraying your country by being with this dirty foreigner!" I believe that's what you call racism. |

Nobody's ever blatantly said that to me, but they definitely mean that when they do stuff like call her a bitch (under their breath), miguk-lover, shoulder barge her on purpose, talk down to her when she's with me, give hostile stares, etc etc. |

Not sure how people can marry a Korean girl and then choose to live there. I mean racism against foreigners is bad enough, but to bring such insults upon somebody you love is kind of unfair imo |
