Birdman: walks into an Asian florist and says, it all smells like … kimchi

The netizens aren't happy.

Kimchi smells like shit. Why won't Koreans just admit it like the countries that ban durian fruit from public transport?

Kimchi smells like morning after hungover farts. Especially when it's a bit mature. When it's fresh it isn't so bad.

South Korean movie goers are protesting about the price of movie theater tickets.

No wonder they need the US military guarding them from their brothers up north. This is the most laced panty, yellow pansy, thumb sucking, pouting culture on the planet.

Who knows how many Koreans are actually offended by this, the media tends to blow things up.
Koreans have got to pick their battles. Getting incensed over this, that Olympics website last week just makes them seem like the boy who cried wolf. This has got to be one of the reasons why they have so little international sympathy when it comes to some of their past moans. It's always something.

Not many. Check out the online Korean language papers, you have to look for it.

Main page: mostly IS stuff, Sejong murder/suicide, Korea-China FTA, Korea-Japan relations

Even on the Culture, and International sections it's not there.

Maybe like 1000 netizens are angry.

Wife was laughing at the ladies on missyusa.com because a whole slew of them were frothing over the "F@#cking Kimchi" line. Seems as though it was translated literally and there was some misunderstanding, along with general Korean sensitivities and hurt feelings. My wife laughed and said "it's the old Korean double standards at work again" It's fine when Korean media does it, but when it happens to us, everyone gets out their sensitive tight underwear out.

My wife did something similar. I think she saw it on the news this morning and said anyone who's upset over it is an idiot.

The angry nazizens remind me of Steelrails. They would argue until blue in the face that the sky is green.

Kimchi contains garlic and anchovy paste, which both stink. Getting angry changes nothing.

"The alleged derogatory remarks were also raised to the Korean Ambassador."

What can the embassy do?

Anyone with any sense along with a good command of the English language would agree to the following statement issued by the production team after watching the movie in it's entirety.

“The flower shop Emma Stone visits in the film is run by an Asian and the line was simply used to portray her neurotic character (Emma's, not the owner). There is no intention at all to belittle a certain country or culture.”

They should be grateful that some people around the world even know what kimchi is, quite remarkable for an unremarkable food.

Comments on KS:

"Quite ironical how US loves to preach about cultural tolerance to Koreans yet ridicules a Korean dish in one of their Jewish productions Birdman. Seriously, and they'll say it's artistic freedom. It's no better than the black face those mother f*ckers whine about all the time. US hypocrisy at best."

"Let's be honest here, Kimchi doesn't smell as bad as cheese but you never hear people complain. It's definitely a racism thing. But white people tend to be stupid anyway."
