| I will be renewing my visa in march, and my passport expires in April (am planning to renew passport after getting the e2 renewal). Will this be an issue with immigration? |

Yes.
They usually won't renew a visa (or more correctly, extend your status of sojourn) in a passport with less than 6 months validity remaining.
For those with less than 1 year they only give the renewal until the expiry of the passport. They cannot extend your stay beyond the life of your passport.
If you are from Canada or the USA a passport renewal (replacement passport application) usually takes less than 1 month. If you are from the UK you are screwed.
And as a parting shot..... and not just at you...
How on earth can someone let their passport run to less than 6 months validity when abroad. It is simply asking for problems (and a possible exit order).
The good news is that you can at least travel to your home country on a passport with less than 6 months remaining provided it is a direct flight.

My canadian passport actually expires the end of april, which isn't much better I know, but the ARC expires the end of march.
So in theory could me and my workplace extend till the end of march, I get my passport renewed within the next 2 months, and then go renew again longer term? |

Get your azz into the embassy.
You should have your shiny new, 10-year passport in about 21 days or so. The longer you wait the more likely you are to get yourself screwed with an overstay and fines and/or sent home.
Alternatively, fly home (the only place you can go with less than 60 days validity on your passport) and get yourself sorted out on your own time then find a new job.

I, an American, got my new passport from the American Emb. in just 4 days.
They even had a courrier pick the old one up at my Univ. and then brought it back with the new one. |

I just got through the process today at the Canadian embassy, and will be able to pick up my passport in exactly 21 working days, which means I get it just before my arc expires. This is much, much longer than I was expecting
Would my workplace be able to extend me for another year if we go to immigration on the same date as my arc expires or is it too late at that point? |

They state "3-days" but they can do it on the last day if everything is in order.

And if they simply say not enough time, that's it I imagine? Would I not qualify for an extension or change in status as long as my arc has some kind of time left?
I'll be calling 1345 and asking a lot of questions, but was wonderign if you'd be able to shed some light in this regard as well |
