I moved a few years ago, but never updated my address with the driver licensing department. Is there a penalty (fee) assessed for not updating one's address? I'm particularly weary, especially after I updated my address with immigration two days too late, and was fined.

Thanks for responses!

No, there is no penalty unless you are caught driving with it and the address is out dated (don't get in a crash on the way to the D/L center).

I just discovered that not changing your address with immi or gu office will get you a red mark on your Korean Criminal record...
Immi said my application for F5 will be rejected for that reason... Fortunately- it won't affect any later applications..
Pretty shocking find..

^^immigration matters, but the police don't.

I got my first license in Busan, then moved 2 years later. When the license expired 8 years later, I renewed it it my new city (not Busan), and gave my new address. When I picked it up, I noticed it still had my Busan address on it. Gave me a laugh.

That WOULD suck (as I updated my address a few days too late) had I not decided to leave Korea before my career prospects dry up back home, or elsewhere...

Interesting though - thanks for the info!

If tompatz says no then no, but I would like to take this opportunity to remind people that if you switch jobs you have 2 weeks to notify immigration or you will face a fine..80,000 won.

Indeed. 2 weeks and not 15 days. Playing stoopid doesn't work. Looking back, I should have just photoshopped my housing contract date...

Does this apply to F-4 visa holders as well?

No.
On an F4 your employer is not your sponsor or reason for being in Korea (your visa is not tied to your employment).

I have a sort of related question. A few months ago was living with my inlaws. I changed my address at that time. My wife and I have since gotten an apartment but we both just left her folks place as our official address on our drivers licences and ID cards. Am I breaking any immigration rules by doing this? We figured her folks address is much mofd permanent and any mail we can easily retrieve. I havd an F6 and will apply flr F5 next year

Similar question to above.
Someone said they were a few days late reporting their address change to immi. How would immi know you are a few days late. I mean, you are not officially moved until you report the address change to immi. Is there some reason you couldn't just tell them you moved last week.

I have two residences, one in Seoul that is permanent and one in Gyeonggi do that my current school provides. This Gyeonggi do contract is almost up, so I will need to change my official residence back to the Seoul address. I am not sure how to answer a "when did you move" question since I have had both residences for a year. Would there be a right or wrong time to go inform immigration that I am changing back to my permanent address.

Thanks,
