I've been called in to do a 15-20 minute mock lesson at the Mokdong Poly and I'm nervous since I'm new to this so I'm not quite sure what to expect. It's going to be in person at the school. I think I'm looking at a gyopo position.

I asked my recruiter for info about it, but all she could tell me was that it was for elementary kids and sent me the materials the school wanted me to use. It's a PDF with a short story about Gilgamesh with vocab words and extra "questions to consider" and such.

Anyway, any advice would be appreciated. The material seems really advanced (definitely not going to sit there doing pronounciation) but I know Poly caters to more experienced students.

If you are requested to do a mock lesson, may I suggest funny haircuts.

Mocking what other people look like is a great way to kill 15-20 minutes.

Hakwons like Poly want teachers who have high energy levels and who interact a lot with the students. They also want the students to feel challenged. So if you're doing vocabulary you want to encourage students to think about context clues rather than spoon-feeding them the definitions. You also want to ask them questions that go beyond simple comprehension ("critical thinking questions") and hopefully make the text "relevant" to their own lives.
