EDITED: Due to adding Screenshot of my receipt

Hey
Sharing this will probably prevent me from getting a taxi in Seoul. But uberX is offering up to 30 free taxi rides. (up to 30,000 fare limit) in seoul.

I've used uberX almost 10x now and prefer it over regular taxis as it's almost half the cost (when I did pay!)

Also you can double dip and also get 10k if it's your first time signing up for Uber.

https://www.uber.com/invite/ubercodes

Finally, here is the official news from the UBER Korea blog about this promotion:

I'm not back in country until mid-April. Can I sign up now, from 'Murica? I may be using Uber for the first time in LA. We're staying at the Hyatt Reg. in Newport Beach next week. Will that screw up my Uber-ness?

Or, make a million won by reporting the drivers:

Yes you can use it and get your first ride free in LA. It doesn't say how long it will last for.

Right after posting this, I took a uberX ride to another city. The ride took about 1 hour 15min. It was absolutely FREE as my bill was 0!

You might want to double check this, as I've heard a number of stories of people being burned. Usually the free rides have a cap on them of $20.

Thank you. Been a member for awhile and didn't know there was such a feature like that.

Just a heads up. If you use it in LA I think the free first ride limit is $20

I tested it out myself. I just edited my first post and added a screen shot. 1 hour 17min ride = 0 WON

The hot spots are in Hongdae, Itaewon, and Gangnam. There were plenty of cars around before the FREE taxi ride promo.

I just took a cab from yangjae costco today which is pretty far south in seoul. Took me about 5min to locate one and another 5min for it to arrive in front of costco

The sign up page (linked in the OP first post) says:

-- --
You Just Got a Free Ride
Welcome to Uber, the easiest way to get around at the tap of a button.
Claim your free ride from **, worth up to ₩10,000!
-- --

So that's one free ride, worth 10,000.
OK, that's not bad, but how do you get the 30 free rides at 20k or 30 k a ride?
I'm not quite ready to give out my credit card details for one free ride at 10k...

Thanks!

Hi Drew:

It didn't use any of my credit. It will first give you 30 rides free up to 30 times (or whenever the promo ends whichever comes first)

AFTER the promo ends or you've used 30 rides then it will use up your credit.
As you can see in my screenshot, my ride was over 20,000 and it still was 0 won since I was still under the 30,000 limit

So the promo says it will give you one free promo ride , but actually it gives you 30? Did you have to do anything extra to get the extra 29 promo rides (like keep re-registering or something)?
