|
|
I recently re-signed with a hagwon and I asked about the severance. The director said that they don't pay severance to teachers at this school because of "reasons." He couldn't explain to me why in English. So I told him that it was Korean law that I get a severance payment at the completion of a contract. Is there any kind of loopholes that would allow a hagwon to be exempt from paying severance? For example, I only work about 24 hours a week would this constitute me as a part time worker and therefore unable to receive severance? |

Ask him to explain it. If he doesn't, just go to the LB and have them sort it out. Don't threaten the boss, just go to the LB and be done with it.
And find a new job. The guy running this place is obviously crooked and chances are that he'll also screw you over some other way if he gets a chance. |

If they are a really tiny mom and pop hagwon with less than 5 employees, then they don't have to pay it. |

Yea this place isn't small, they definitely have more than 5 employees. I'm not to worried about being screwed because I have worked there for a year already and plus I'm on a F visa. Also, the working hours are really low so I'm considering whether to rock the boat or not. |

If you're on an F-visa just walk in and say sorry I found something else. He can't do anything to really hurt you. |

Funny because when I was with a labour lawyer 2 weeks ago planning to take an ex employer to the cleaners, he asked me that very question, he wanted to make sure it was over 5 employees. |
