Hi, I would greatly appreciate some advice.

I am a Korean citizen (Korean parents, born in Korea, have Korean passport) but I also have a passport from another country (was raised there)and lived there nearly all my life.
I used my Korean passport to fly in and get a job and set up bank account and now I am happily living and teaching in Korea.

But

I went to renew my passport because it is going to expire in 2 months and they told me that I CANNOT renew passport because I have a foreign passport. So when this passport expires I have not got a korean passport which scares me.

I need to apply for an F4 visa with my foreign passport, which means I have to renounce my Korean passport.
a) Is this all possible even though I have used my Korean passport to come here and get a job.
b) How would I switch from using my Korean passport to using my foreign passport+F4?

I really need some advice, thank you

You're considering to renounce your citizenship so you can secure an ESL job?

Shocked

I really really need help so please could anyone give me any advice or contact me privately!

I have to renounce my korean citizenship to get ANY job in Korea (not just ESL) because if I want to stay in this country for a long period of time I need a visa.

But my problem is that I have been using my Korean passport so far (2 months) can I suddenly just renounce it and live off my foreign passport and F4 visa?

I have plenty of friends that hold both passports (US/Korea) and use either when it suits them for travel/work. I can't imagine your case would be special unless you are a guy and they are looking for you to serve in the military.

YES thankyou! I am exactly like one of your friends! I hold both passports and someone else told me its fine to carry both as well but its not technically allowed but so many people do it because it does not hurt anyone or anything and as long as you do not do anything illegal it's fine. But what did your friends do when they needed to renew their Korean passport?

Who told you this?

My understanding was the law changed and dual citizenship is allowed. Is that only for Koreans adopted or half-blooded or foreigners who take up Korean citizenship?

Sorry I can't give you more information, but it seems if you are Korean, you have Korean language skills and perhaps a Naver forum would be of better help?

It might also be that it needs to be addressed the same way you address any issue with Korean officialdom: keep asking different people until you get the answer you want.

Once you're in Korea, aren't you considered a Korean citizen, no matter what passport you entered on? Maybe that's why they won't issue you a Korean passport.

You do have a Korean citizen card? If you have that, than I think you'll have no issues staying long term. As long as you've done your national service I think you'll be fine. If you haven't, that might be the issue, and you might have problems leaving Korea.
