Quick background. I taught in Korea (and China) for 4 years. I came back home almost 10 ears ago and got a job in the trades .
Oil prices notwithstanding I have some cash to travel and would like to include a visit to Korea --and see if the 3 Alley Pub is still there LOL.
Earlier this year I went to Tokyo and was surprised, shocked even to find that smoking is not allowed outside (generally. the rules vary a bit.) In fact I was even "busted" by some cop types who showed me a sign in English that I cannot smoke in the street.
Basically though bars and coffee shops have smoking areas----sometimes enclosed or outside....So in other words you go INSIDE to smoke rather than go outside which is the norm here. Not sure what their policy on vaping is. But the airport smoking rooms I liked.
So has there been a sea change like this in Korea? I follow Asian news and was surprised I didn't know this.
And please don't yell at me if this subject has been beat to death---I tried the search function.Cheeres and thanks in advance. |

Smoking indoors has been banned for almost all places with a fine of 100,000W caught for the person smoking. Also, the price of cigarettes has increased about 2,000W. |

Yeah, you got lucky in Japan. The "cop types"--if in uniform--are real police with real power to give you a real fine. Another nifty bit of information is that China's going that way too; slowly, mind you, but it's happening. June 1st is the day the new law regarding smoking in public places in Beijing goes into effect. |
