Back to the topic. Lots of fastfood joints are offering breakfast in Korea, with Lotteria and KFC entering the fold with their versions of muffins with meat and stuff. I love the McDonald's stuff but it's not healthy, and I haven't eaten Burger King's stuff in a long while. |
Could go back to the diet of the 1950s. Or hang a dog from a tree and slowly beat it to death before eating it. Ohhhhh, the good ole days. |
Was that necessary? Tell me that. Knock it off. |
Tell me this--did not such things happen and do not such things still happen, although with less frequency, in SK? |
Nice job atwood. You challenged a mod and didn't get banned. At least I don't think you got banned. I haven't seen a post of yours recently. That being said, I just want to say that I, in no way, endorse atwood's comments and I am quite fond of Korean food. |

Why not challenge a mod? He is trying to censore the truth.
Then again the mods work hard on here. I got another harrassing pm yesterday. Nothing was done.

The best breakfast I had in Korea was McDonalds. And the sandwiches at Paris Baguette were probably one of the better lunches. There are some good dinners (Gamja tang I enjoyed), but I'd rather eat a Subway sandwich than the majority of Korean food. |
I can eat galbi tang for breakfast, some kind of soup, but, as much as I like kimchi, I generally don't want to eat it for breakfast. I have done it before, but for a late breakfast. I can definitely eat some good doenjang. Some Koreans eat doenjang. Granted, a lot of the food's an acquired taste, doenjang is better for your than slap jacks and bacon, though they taste a lot better, IMHO. |

I am not going to tell you again. His post was extreme. Does what he wrote in a fair way describe most Koreans? No. Do we need to lock this thread? Do you need to ruin this for others? |

You didn't answer my question. Instead you threatened to lock the thread.
I consider that extreme.
If you thought there was a problem with the post about eating dogs, you should have pointed out the problem rather that asking a question about the post and then barking out orders.
Besides, how do you know that his post did not in a fair way describe many (to say most seems to be an sr-ian stretching of the point) Koreans in the 1950s?
Tell me that. |

You can't help but wonder if the mods are running into some flack from Dave over the decrease in traffic on the site. On the one hand, they have to squash anti-Korea type sentiments (to make Korea look like a more attractive destination), but on the other hand, the banning of hundreds or thousands of users over the years can't but destroy the traffic on this site, which leads to a direct loss in revenue. Because in the olden days, these posts would have led to instant bannings. |

I will answer your question and then we'll call it a day. The boy who ate the breakfast isn't from the 1950's. The guy who brought up the dog eating was speaking sarcastically. He was doing that to make fun of people. We got a report.
There's a conspiracy theory below that claims moderators are getting flack from Koreans or Dave about this or that. We don't get contacted by irate Koreans and then get some message from Dave. That's a conspiracy theory. It's your fellow expats who are irate. It's people like you, fellow expats, who send in reports about anti-Semitism, bigoted comments about Chinese people, calling Americans "S___tic tanks", and we try to respond to the reports. We got several reports this week about racist comments posted by teachers on this forum. Since this is a Korean forum when people choose to be bigoted most comments will be directed towards Koreans. It's simple logic, but we get reports about bigotry directed all kinds of groups.
It is not about trying to increase traffic from Japanese, Korean employers. That's a conspiracy theory. Several moderators understand life in Korea and have posted positive and negative things. We just don't engage in bigotry. None of the moderators ever, ever got such a message from Dave to protect a certain identifiable group. We just enforce the TOS. That covers all groups. There, I gave you an explanation, and the conspiracy theory below is just that. We don't get flack from Dave. We get flack from users who are tired of users not following the TOS. And they're right. It's totally normal to be critical of things in a country if you're a poster in Korea, the UAE, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Japan. It's understandable.
We received loads of reports and some have just completely ignored the TOS lately. There you go, you have an explanation. And we didn't ban thousands of users. That's hyperbole. Hundreds? Not really. That's also an exaggeration.
This is an explanation for you, Atwood, but I also refer to the conspiracy theory above this post that you did not post. People have all kinds of conspiracy theories. If our focus as moderators was to simply go after people to please business owners in a certain country most of us wouldn't bother being moderators. |

I appreciate the answer, although I still believe that you could have responded to the offending post in a less high-handed manner.
Take it easy. |

Please, future business leaders of the world, enlighten me as to how traffic on the forum side of this site affects its revenues in any significant way. You really think our bickering is where Mr. Sperling's money comes from? Most individuals who use this site have never even visited this side of things, and amongst those who have they seldom give it more than a passing glance. |

You, sir, are spot on. We never receive posts from Korean hagwon bosses and what not about posts. It doesn't happen. There aren't meetings with Dave over upset hagwon owners, Koreans, Japanese people saying they will pull adds because so-and-so poster offended them. These are all conspiracy theories that have no substance as you pointed out. Some posters are over-dramatizing things.
As far as being heavy-handed regarding the said pointed out post that was mentioned, when you have 17 reports waiting for you and the same old, same old, and you've got a job to do, what would you think? We usually try to be nice about things, but 14-17 reports to go through is a lot. Keep that in mind. We do try to be amiable, understanding where we can. There are limits. Anyway, I don't want to beat a dead-horse, so to speak. It's good some posters don't insist on conspiracy theories. It's not all that. We don't do conference calls to discuss some upset national of this or that country. It just doesn't happen. Your fellow expats complain that other uses are not following the TOS, being offensive and send us the reports. It's that simple.
Have a good weekend. |

I believe we have come to a truce in this thread. But what about Korean breakfast?

I sincerely apologize if I insulted anyone on this site. I was simply stating that I thought even though McDs or Lotteria breakfast might not be the best options but they are still very healthy options considering food options in the past. I'm sort of happy to have so many options considering what it was like in the past for Koreans and people like my grandparents. I wasn't trying to insult anyone about the dog thing. More about how things are much better now. I was being somewhat sarcastic but I didn't mean it as an insult to anyone.
I will now humbly say, this is my last visit to this site.
Happy trails to everyone,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, |
