I buy a German hefeweizen beer at 7/11. It cost 2,500 yen.
I drank it. It was good, so I go back for more beer.

The next time I buy a Stella, Carlsburg and a snack.
But the other two cost more than listed, which is 2,500 and 2,900.
Instead both cost more than 3,000 - one was 3,800, the other was 3,900.
Why? The clerk was nice enough but I couldn't understand the explanation.

You may have had to buy more than one can to get that price. Especially in the convenience stores, the fine print on sales takes an eagle eye to spot and read. Or the computer and the signs were out of sync, which has happened to me, and you were shit out of luck.

I would have either changed beers, which the clerks are fine with since they're in no hurry to get anywhere, or just walked out with a thanks but no thanks.

They have monthly sales for different kinds of beer. The German Hefeweizen was on sale, but not part of the buy 4 for 10,000 won deal.

Stella and Carlsburg are buy 4 for 10,000. However, if you do not buy 4, they generally (unless you are regular customer I have found) will not give you the special sale price.

The price listed was probably the old monthly promotional price.

Anyway, as far as convenience stores go for beer, CU is far and away the cheapest.

OK, I will remember CU.
Walked past one last week. Should have gone in.

Even two years ago I don't recall paying extra for beer at 7/11.

Makes me wonder if the economy is getting worse and stores want to sell as much as possible.

CU is the best for beer out of the CVSs.

For the next two months it seems to be Guinness, Stella, Becks, Suntory, Calsberg, Tsingtao and Asahi Black (maybe another beer or two). They're all 2500 each if you buy four or more.

If you don't buy four, you'll get charged at the reduced rate of 2900 or 3000 depending on the can.
