I think that type of punishment is more suitable for home.
In a school, I'm not a fan of forcing kids to eat stuff as a punishment... even if it is semi-safe. |

Gotta agree with the cap'n.
BTW I hope all those who were so strongly in favor of caning are not criticizing the teacher in this case. |

When I was in elementary school my mum made a chocolate covered soap bar for me to give to a boy named Filip because he always stole my lunch.
Unfortunately, he forced another kid to trade it for a Snickers...
I felt so bad for that kid.
Last year a friend of mine saw Filip in a KFC down town. He was strung out on crack and looked like he's been living in a dumpster. So, I guess things worked out in the end. |

It's not suitable at home, either.

It's another type of corporal punishment and, thus, is banned. I'm sure you know far better ways to manage a disruptive student. |

Don't abuse children and the government will stay out of the home.
Of course, you don't abuse your children. |

I have to say my man, I was a child once, and have been clipped when it was deserved, I don't feel I was abused.
Some of these kids today could do with a bloody good clip from their parents.
Now 'child abuse' is an entirely different kettle of fish, I suppose we need clear definitions of 'child abuse'. |

liquid soap ordetergent. That's pretty dangerous.. |
No: Its a tested household product designed for children to use.
If it was dangerous half the population would be dropping down dead. Most people are in physical contact with it on a daily basis.

ie, from one of the few countries on earth still to possess a basic concept of discipline. Evidently you don't. |
That means safe for your hands not to drink by the gallon like a fish! I mean who drinks soap for pleasure? Really? |

Caning an adult having found them guilty through judicial process is totally different from forcing a child to eat soap.

Wow with that attitude why cant anyone see that she was just letting them enjoy the taste of it for things to come? Il tell you what, I saw a dog take a big dump on the side of the road, would you like some? You dont gotta eat it, you only gotta taste it.
Seriously what a train wreck of a person. I read on another site that the school was private and did its own hiring and that she was a south african woman.
EDIT: i saw that this story mentions her nationality and all as well. |
You're already abusing someone you don't even know, so what chance does your future spouse or children have?

Yes I don't understand discipline because I don't make children eat soap.
Are you that stupid or maybe youre SA and upset because she represented your people wrongly.
I understand discipline and the way she handled it was NOT discipline at all. Perhaps you should learn that? |
Obviously you were never disciplined. If you had been, then you wouldn't have become the noxious little twerp you're acting like now. |

That South African NET was way out of line.
You NEVER, ever resort to any disciplinary measure that involves physical action as a NET apart from telling the offending students to move out of their seat and into the corner or out of the classroom and with you to the co-ordinator or principal etc.
If the student refuses to obey, ignore them and bide your time or get the appropriate Korean teacher if you are allowed to leave your class and you know where the teacher is.
With most rude/offensive/troublemaking Korean students of school age as opposed to students who are a bit cheeky, bored, trying it on or simply acting up at times the way students do you have to involved a senior teacher or their home room teacher if you are teaching in the school system.
If students were hampering the class or being obstructive or disrespectful or simply talked too much when I told them not to, I always told them they were not leaving my class when the bell rang.
I kept them there for at least 5 minutes during the break between classes, when they challenged me too much on that they were kept longer. Students hate being kept longer. It is one of the most effective ways of dealing with attitudes that go too far. But you always must inform the appropriate Korean teacher after and tell them why it happened.
That SA NET should not be teaching in Korea if this rubbishy soap 'discipline' was used regardless of whether they forced the kids to wash their mouths with it or gave the kids an option. |
