Former Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Fraser has died aged 84.
A statement from his office said Mr Fraser, who led the nation between 1975 and 1983, died after a short illness.
He became its leader in controversial circumstances, after the unprecedented dismissal of PM Gough Whitlam.
Once in office, he championed the rights of Indigenous Australians and refugees, a stance that put him on a collision course with his own party in later life.

I'll leave any commetary to those who follow Australian politics more closely than I do.

Nobody follows Australian politics closely. Not even Australians do. |

But I'm sure we can look forward to fifty pages of impassioned debate and exciting recollections when Mulroney finally kicks. |

Hey, how dare you make that kind of comparison? I served with Brian Mulroney. I knew Brian Mulroney. Brian Mulroney was a friend of mine. And Malcolm Fraser was no Brian Mulroney.
Anyway, I guess it is possible that my comment may have been offensive to some Australians. Good thing they can't read! |

You can watch q & a on ABC for free online and itis well worth an hour of your time a week.
Although it is hilariously, unashamedly bias towards the left it still is entertaining to watch and you get to learn so much about Australian politics, social issues and history. |
