Has anyone worked for BCM recently?
How reliable are they at paying you?
What is their attitude like in general? Rude or professional?
I have found this old thread from 10 years ago, ( http://forums.eslcafe.com/korea/viewtopic.php?t=1614) but I would like to hear some recent information
Thank you in advance! |

BCM has more than 10 years experience hiring teachers, including hiring short term and part time contract workers.
The contract for part time workers has an illegal clause in it.
It says that if you don't give sufficient notice of contract termination, that they won't pay you that month's salary...so for example if you quit in the middle of June, you will not get paid for the work you completed during the first few weeks of June.
They say that they haven't enforced it yet when teachers have quit.I call B.S. And even if this is true, the very existence of this clause does not establish a bond of trust between the company and the worker. Of course, asking them to remove it is besides the point, because if they are willing to add something so blatantly illegal, then who knows what else they might do to screw you over.
Futhermore, when I told them that I was no longer interested in the position due to that clause, they spoke to me like I was being ridiculous and were very rude overall, instead of just letting me walk away. The only good thing that came out of that conversation was the lack of denial that the clause was illegal.
So glad I did not sign that contract.
What a bunch of rude cowboys. |

To my knowledge, all penalty clauses are illegal under Korean law. A contract can not supersede the law. |
