...and yet they still won't come here. What's with Canadian companies anyways? You see tons of American, British, or Aussie stuff here. We have some pretty good products they should sellhere too. Everything from Donairs, to Tim's, to Pizza Delight, the Presidents Choice, to Peanut Butter O Henry's. to Superstore blue label foods, to Wonderbar, to Harveys burgers, etc?
Our products are good, but our companies seem to stick theirhead up their butts and not go global. Even as we supposedly have embraced free trade for years. Just set up in Vancouver and target ads to Koreans and Chinese and then come over here and they'll have instant brand recognition. Genius! |

Nahhhh, the products aren't that good. Canada isn't that popular outside of Canada. |

False. Canada's "nation brand" is consistently near the top of the list worldwide. There are plenty of Canadian products here. Bombardier provides the engines to Korea's trains and subways. Jeju Air uses exclusively Bombardier planes. Several of Korea's nuclear reactors are Canadian made. New York Fries are actually Canadian. Oh, and ever been to an Imax theater? That's Canadian, too. Blackberry would love to market here but they can't get passed the trade barriers. SNL is actually started by (and owned by) a Canadian, and Koreans have now copied that also.

Canada Goose clothing is now extremely popular in Korea. A 'status' symbol for many given the price.
Boston Pizza is also Canadian.
They probably won't let Four Seasons Hotels operate here because of the name.  Korea has those words pretty much trademarked. "Four Seasons": Korea's national treasure #10487. I wouldn't be surprised if Seoul insisted it pay royalties to Korea for using that name. That chain has hotels in Japan, China, Singapore, Malaysia, India, Hong Kong, Thailand, Bora Bora, Mali, etc....but none in Korea. Seems strange. One of the largest economies in Asia, with businessmen traveling here on a frequent basis, but no Four Seasons hotels. Christ, they even have them as far south as Australia. I even stayed at one in Cuba. I wonder if a Korean company tried to use the name for its use and was blocked by the Canadian company...and now the Korean government (under pressure from the concerned chaebol) has forbidden the Canadian company from setting up shop in Korea. There might be an interesting 'back story' there. |

Ahh....this is pretty easy to explain.
When Canada's four seasons were finally explained to the Korean oversight committee, they realized Korea was in the clear with their original thinking that Korea has the only 4 truly distinct seasons.
Korea -Winter, spring, summer, fall
Canada - Winter, still winter, more winter, road construction. |

Blackberry did have a minor presence here once, but they've had their day in the sun. A former owner that didn't know how to play politics, keeping that rolly ball on their phones, not pleasing Indian officials were just a few factor in their downfall imo. |
