| I have, figuratively, been watching this season for about five years. But I still have five more episodes of the second season of The Wire to get through; such a long, arduous affair. |

Then don't watch it?
I loved The Wire. I only saw it a few years after it finished and marathoned the whole thing in a couple of weeks. It has some of the most memorable characters ever written. |

Best TV show ever done bar none. Omar has to be the best character ever written, so many levels to him. My personal favorites were Stringer Bell and of course Bunk
I had a problem with season 2 at first because I didn't watch season 1 first. Do that watch them in order and you won't get off your couch until you finish all 60 episodes |

I'd say it is the 3rd best season of the wire. My unsolicited ranking:
1. Season 4
2. Season 1
3. Season 2
4. Season 3
5. Season 5 (but to its credit, ended the show well)
Even though I put season #4 at the top, I've only watched it once. More painful than the other 4 seasons. I've watched seasons 1-3 a few times.
I wouldn't disagree with any other rankings, except putting season 5 any higher. It clearly was the weakest one. |

Exactly the same ranking as Bucheon bum.
Though the gap between each season is pretty small.
I might put 2 ahead of 1.
I think I've watched through 1-4 about three times. Season 5 just the once. |

Watch the BET version of season 2. Skips the whole docks snooze fest.
I'm going to disagree with some here and say that the Wire was good, but Homicide: LotS and The Corner were better. Virtually all of the cops' characters were overdone and at times overacted and seemed so typical. Unless the show was dealing with the projects, I would just zone out unless Bunk Moreland was on. It was all about the Barksdales, Stringer, Prop Joe, Omar and so on. |

The dock workers story arc was what I enjoyed most about season 2. It fit perfectly into the theme of the decline of the city. The death of industry etc.
And Ziggy got his duck drunk.
Also the schools arc in season 4 didn't involve any of the aforementioned characters and was one of the best things in the whole show.

I gave the docks an honest shot and it was just a big yawn. It's like in Boardwalk Empire where you're going from Capone or Rothstein over to Margaret Schroder babbling about some nonsense.
And it isn't a black thing. Most of the black cops were awful. Greggs the lesbian cop, Daniels overacting, Lester Freamon aka a Morgan Freeman rip off, etc.
The projects were compelling TV, the police were just a typical dumb cop show that you'd see on NBC. |

The Corner is a mini-series and focuses almost entirely on the users. Very different than Homicide and The Wire.
As for Homicide vs. the Wire, you say the latter was typical? A big chunk of season 1 of Homicide is complete crap and pretty much fits the stereotype of a police drama on network TV. The show gets better, but I thought it was one of the more overrated shows. Not bad, but not that great either (minus Andre Braugher). |

Really? I thought season 1 of H:LotS was one of the best. Seasons 1-4 were good when they had Jon Polito and Ned Beatty. |
