i closed the doors of my business today. it was not mandatory but recommended.

It's labeled as a "Bank Holiday" why in the world would Labor Day be given to people who work in banks? Yes, technically they do labor, but shouldn't that be given to people who actually do labor?

Plus, no, I did not get the day off... I didn't even realize it until I saw your post. I think my coworkers have to work on Children's Day as well.

Yes. Locked the place down…… Fri. Sat. Sun. + Teachers received holiday bonuses.

I believe forcing salary workers to work on May 5 with no extra pay is a labour board violation. It is a full fledged red day for the whole country. Not just children.

It is a full fledged red day, but I read on a website that private companies are not legally obligated to give employees those red days off. There are only two days that they must give you off and that's Labor Day and the once a week rest day, usually Sunday. Other than that, it is up to the benefits stated in the contract whether or not you get those red days off.

If you are a government worker, then you are supposed to have red days off.
