Do you have, or have you previously had an F5 visa? |
I had a F5-2 visa from 2010 until 2013 when I left Korea. I still have the ARC with me. |

I noticed that you mentioned you didn't speak Korean. That's why I asked if you had an F5 visa.
I have been in Korea and married to a Korean for more than 11 years straight. I have been on an F2, now on an F6. Have a home, a business, money in the bank, some investments here, yata yata yata. I speak a little Korean but I'm not fluent. I can carry on small talk. I'm able to carry on basic things without the help of my spouse. However, the last time I was at immigration, the officer denied me an F5 because he said my Korean wasn't fluent enough. He and I rattled a little basic conversation back and forth, but it must of not impressed him much. No formal test or anything, just a (you don't really need one) reply.
All in all, it doesn't really matter. I doubt I will spend my retirement years in Korea. Or if the wife croaks before me, I'm sure I wouldn't stay here. At this point, the difference in which F visa I have hasn't affected me. It's just the point of the matter. It's like rolling dice. It seems there are no written guidelines.
Sorry to hijack your thread.
I hope things go well on your visit. |

That's a problem when individual immigration officers have personal discretion over acceptable or rejection of someone's visa.
The rule(s) need to be objective.

Your visa should still be valid. When I spoke to 1345 about it, I was told provided your return is less than 2 years since you left you are still F5. At the moment there isn't a residency requirement, you could enter and immediately leave to reset the clock.
As for the poor guy refused for Korean language it just highlights the differences between Australia and Korea. My wife got permanent residency here without an English test and was then given 500 hours of English language classes. |
