| Got into an incident, and was present for the police-interview, then case was turned over to the prosecution and judge which promptly issued me a fine (1 million KRW) which is due after the time I was to leave Korea. I had planned to leave Korea this week for good, will this affect me at the airport with my passport being flagged? For some reason, I was thinking "no", even though the answer could be an undoubted "yes". |

| There's a great blog out there somewhere that I can't find again about a guy who ended up in Korean prison for almost a year because he tried to leave the country with unpaid fines. It wasn't all that much either, a few million, drunk & disorderly. More serious than your fine but why take chances? |

I doubt that is true. Not saying it isn't, but I doubt it very much. There must have been other factors at play.
I think Thompatz is the man to ask about that kind of legal thing.
Op, what was the fine for? Before people want to help you further they'd probably like to know what your offence was. You omitted that from your post. |

I found it. It was more than I remember, and there was more than one incident. Still only unpaid fines though. No arrest warrants or anything like that. Though his fines were probably also past due.

If the fine is past due then you will be stopped at the airport.
If the fine was large enough they would have taken your passport.
If the fine is small enough and not yet due then you can probably escape without incident but you will also have burned that bridge for returning (sucks to get arrested when you are inbound at the airport).
If you are flagged then they may stop you, allow you to pay it off at the office by passport control and then let you proceed through.
Go to your flight but be prepared to deal with it (cash in your pocket) if necessary.

I've heard of people being stopped at the airport because of fines. In the cases that I heard, they asked the person to pay right there at the airport before they would be allowed to leave the country. Some refused and missed their flight. Others paid and were let go. I guess it depends on what you were fined for, but I would guess that it's on your record and that immigration will catch you on the way out. Best to have the cash on hand just in case. |

I think we'd all like to know what, in this land of utterly useless law enforcement officials, brought the righteous hand of the police and legal system down upon you. Couldn't have been anything small, and you do seem to be witholding that tadbit of information. Pray tell, what was it that actually propelled Korean police to do their job? |

Your logic makes sense except for one thing. He's not a Korean and will immediately be dumped on. |

| I read this thread with excitement. A predicament! A cliffhanger! The anticipation for the next installment in this story is getting to me. I hope the OP will let us know what happened next, since they "had planned to leave Korea this week for good" and that was 8 days ago. |
