Hi sorry if this has been asked yet but search is not working for me. Can anyone tell me if there is an age restriction (maximum age) to teaching in a Hakwon? Thanks in advance.

I've seen people nearly sixty teaching in hogwons.


There is no age limit.


Although there are plenty of K-bosses who only want 20 yr-old females to flatter their egoes.

There are no age restrictions to teach at a hogwan. It is totally up to the owner.

However, many owners like young, cute, inexperienced teachers.

But,

my friend's co-worker is 62 years young. She is only 23 years old. Her boss told her to tell the students she was 30- to get more respect.

In my observation,in the countryside, English teachers tend to be older, more experienced, and apt to teach.

My former boss liked to hire people between the ages of 30-55. The Korean math teacher was 67! He said it was a big waste of money to hire a whiny. inexperienced teacher because, by the time they were trained properly,(3-6 months) ,students and parents would have complained too much. Thus, affecting his bottom line.

I read on the internet that the oldest ESL teacher is 79 years young!
