Legendary Lawrence of Arabia actor Omar Sharif has died at age 83.

Sharif suffered a heart attack in Cairo on Friday, according to his agent, Steve Kenis.

In May, Sharif's son Tarek and his agent confirmed that the former Hollywood heartthrob had Alzheimer's disease.

I think I knew who his name and what he looked like, plus the names of one or two of his films. His genres weren't really the ones I gravitate towards.

				| He was an interesting guy. Apart from acting, he was a world-class bridge expert (the cardgame) & a legendary smoker -- 5 packs a day. A few years ago there was a popular brand of smokes in Korea called "Omar Sharif." |

I really enjoyed his bridge column. Sure beat the pants off the one you get in the International New York Times and JoognAngDaily.

Somewhere Omar Sharif is turning a weak 2 bid into a 4 spades game made. |
