|
|
So long story short, I saw an ad for a hagwon with great hours. 1-6/8 every day with 45 minute classes. I applied and got it and it seems that I got the bait and switch.
I started at 22 classes at 2.1 million won, and now I'm at 35-37 classes at the same pay. I asked for a raise, they said no. I pointed out the overtime clause in my contract, and they cited some loophole that hours don't mean classes. Also there's pension in my contract, but now they say there is no pension (although they said they were "checking into it?).
In short, I'm about 70% sure that I'm going to quit.
However, here's my strange situation. I don't want to tell the whole story, but basically, I was able to get my e2 visa without a CRC. They have given me some time to get it, but it's still gonna take awhile especially considering I didn't know we could use approve channelers now until recently.
Because I don't have a current CRC, I can't get my ARC.
I'm also married to a Korean, and want to get the f6. However, because I don't have my ARC, I can't apply yet (called immi several times about this).
My plan is this. Quit the crappy hagwon (2 weeks notice), leave the country for a day, come back on a tourist visa, and then apply for the f6 visa on a tourist visa (I know I will have to leave the country again, but I don't need an ARC for this).
If I quit, can I tell immi at the airport to cancel my visa even without an ARC?
I would stick it out for a few more months as I have stuck out a horrible hagwon before, but this is even worse than that one and my health is going downhill. |

You MUST have your ARC within 90 days of entry on your E2 or you will be in violation of the immigration act.
If you do not have an ARC and are NOT American the simple act of departure will void and cancel your E2.
If you are American and have a multi-entry E2 then you are essentially screwed for the year or until you switch to an F6.

Yeah I'm American and I know about the 90 days. I don't want another E2 so it's okay if I can't get one for another year. I just wanna make sure that I can cancel my visa on my way out without an ARC (or would my employer have to cancel it once I quit?) I've had the visa for less than a month.
I just plan to apply for the F6 right away after coming back on a tourist visa. We have all the paperwork ready to go. |

And ttompatz I just found this in another thread you posted in. Is this still true?
"b) If you ARE American then you likely have a multi-entry E2. You need to actually cancel it when you depart. You can do that verbally at the desk as you pass through passport control on your exit but you MUST tell the immigration officer that you want to cancel the visa and will NOT return to work on that visa.
You will return as a tourist. " |

I would say just tough it out until you get that E2 visa situation and then apply for the F6. If for some reason you have immigration problems because you don't have an ARC card right now, that could affect getting a F6 visa in the future. |

It should still be accurate (the being able to cancel at immigration at the airport part). Make SURE that the visa is marked canceled/void BEFORE you continue to the boarding gate.
As an American with a multi-entry visa you need to actually cancel it.
It doesn't void itself automatically when you exit (like it would for other nationalities).
