I should go to China? The ultimate entry-level position? Do you think I worked in Asia for 5 minutes?

No, but you were not clear what portion of the last 10 years was spent in Asia and what was spent in Spain. I do think you’re out of touch with the EFL market in China if you were offended that we had the audacity to suggest it. But, hey, suit yourself.

Last spring, I was at the end of my eighth year of teaching and I was finally asked by my recruiter why I hadn’t gotten more credentials or training….and I have a TEFL certificate. I gave my reasons, but I’m not sure how much longer I’ll be able to make a case for not having more…at least if I want to stay in Korea.

!

You could have just answered that native speakers are good at helping with speaking not necessarily teaching grammar. Therefore you don't see the point in getting an advanced degree.

Or you could have answered that a celta isn't regarded any more than a bog standard tefl in Korea.

Or you could have said that being a qualified teacher is not sufficient to get an international school job without teaching experience io the west.

What exactly was he or she suggesting you study?

I gave several answers that were in the same pall bark as what you suggested. Ultimately, I don't think the salaries for jobs asking for higher credentials justify the cost of getting the credentials.

Don't think I said it in this thread, but she was trying to fill a teachers trainer position that asked for an MA of sorts...probably TESOL.
