Besides the obvious reason of losing a teacher to another school, why don't schools usually issue LORs? Couldn't that backfire on the school?
I'm about to try getting the letter signed but I've heard they're hard to get. I'd think if the teacher agrees to stay until a new teacher is found and pays back anything owed that there should be no problem. I plan on doing that and playing nice. However, wouldn't schools be worried the teacher will just leave or not part things back if they refuse to issue a letter? That's basically my plan. If I'm following your rules and I even have a potential replacement then I'd expect a letter since it's also obvious that I'm not a good match for the school. But if you're gonna give me am issue or refuse a letter then I'm not gonna stay around if I'll just have to leave anyway.
Do you think these things will work towards me getting a letter of release? Also I've seen the template for the letter but how should I work out the dates if I'm not sure when I'll leave(when they find a replacement)? |

Most places won't give the letter simply because it's considered an insult that you want to leave early. So it's withheld out of spite.
You COULD wait to get the LOR after you find a replacement and have paid the school whatever you agree on, but there is no guarantee that the boss will actually give you the letter then.
You might be best off just getting a new set of documents and doing a visa run to Japan for a new E2 visa. |
