I will visit NYC from July 26th - August 11th on vacation.
I am seriously thinking about giving speed dating a go. I am divorced and I think any kind of female company while seeing the sights might be nice.
I know you can't see me but I have been told that I'm attractive (objectively speaking I do look above average) and well-spoken. I have a shaved head, beard, glasses and look middle eastern (cue the trolls).
As a socially awkward nerd, if I attend one of these events where everyone is there for the express purpose of talking to women, I honestly think I'll be fine, perhaps maybe even shine!
Two points
1) Have you ever tried speed dating? How was the experience? I've read online reviews and people say it's fun.
2) If I attend a speed dating event, do you think the chicks will check/tick the 'Yes' box next to my name?
I know US chicks dig the British accent.
Please desist from nasty, disparaging, humiliating insults and stay on topic. |

Haven't done it myself but I've been told there are usually more men than women who participate. |

Some of the women who do participate may well be unavailable friends or aquaintances of the guy who organised it |

Of course they are. Much like online dating, they use fake profiles to lure horny/lonely/ddesperate guys. I read an article about a woman who was paid to create fake profiles and tempt guys into paying for expensive subscription fees. The whole thing is one huge sausage fest. |

There's actually one of these events in Itaewon periodically. Has anyone ever tried it? |

I impressed myself........I actually plucked up the courage to attend a speed dating event in NYC. I very nearly chickened out but somehow I managed to enter the cafe where the event took place. I felt nervous, self-conscious but spoke with the ladies fairly easily.
I only found one person attractive purely based on looks and she was the only one I'd write down to meet with again.
The next day my profile showed no matches which meant nobody chose me.
It was all a bit of an anti-climax really.
We live on a planet of 7 billion people, from reading online and personal experience there are men out there that look fine, are educated, decent human beings that also cannot seem to find a suitable woman to settle down with.
As I used to ride the NYC subway, I'd often see nice women and ruefully think to myself, isn't life cruel and bizarre. How can one get over unrequited love? Technology is always improving yet to simply find a female to love appears to be very difficult. To make matters worse in NYC I saw many lovely-looking ladies but felt frustrated/disappointed knowing I will never menaingfully connect with them or any women for that matter ever again.
Uplifting message, eh? |

Don't beat yourself up about it. The one attractive female in the room was almost certainly an acquaintance of the guy who was organising the event and in a relatonship already, |

Insightful comment. Looking back, most of the women seemed to be very familiar with the hosts, I suspect most of them were just there to make up the numbers. In a city of millions, I can't understand why real people don't sign up for these events. Some have personality and therefore already have significant others, while maybe others like me have just given up. |

I am out of the loop in this matter. I know various famous online dating sites seem to have many profiles but I always feel it is just a scam. The profiles are fake and so millions people sign up to these sites without ever meeting anyone. I am ignorant about the reality of these sites though. I hope I'm wrong. |
