What is different in the point system? It still looks the same
And by the way, how exactly can I search for such specific documents in hikorea? I want to able to search for the English as well as the Korean version
The English version is easy enough to find in the English version of the website (most of the times it is in the first page) but the Korean one I can't even find through the search function
Is there an easy way to navigate that website? |

They changes the number of points you get for completing level 5 of KIIP.
It used to be 10, and now it seems like 12.
See the link in my post above
Look under the announcement section in the blue bar ( very left),click notice.
Type whatever in the search bar. It doesn't always work.

Just got my F2-99. I was disappointed to see it expires after only just one year. |

Someone on a Facebook group about Korea said the double GNI requirement for the F5 is based on TAXABLE income and such, and that he didn't qualify though he grossed more than 60 million won last year.

Not to throw water on your post, but there is no such requirement. I had the F5 visa and the rules according to the latest foreigner sojourn guide out in 2013 have not changed regarding the monetary requirements. All you have to prove is your ability to support yourself and your family (if married). Single people are required to be on the F2 for 3 years before they are eligible to apply. The financial stability requirement can be satisfied several different ways.
People stating they didn't qualify for monetary reasons are probably the victims of immigration personnel that really didn't want them to get the F5 for some reason. I just finished refreshing myself on the sojourn guide, and if you want the truth, it is best to go to that rather than follow the comments of people on this or other forums. |

This is common. Upon renewal it is discretionary as to whether they give you one, two or three year renewal. I was lucky when I had my F2-1 (back when it was the marriage visa). I got two years right out of the gate and only needed one renewal. I applied for the F5 2 weeks after the renewal and never looked back. |

I just applied for this a few weeks ago, and would like to make a small correction. The points for completing the Level 5 social integration program is still 10. What changed was that completion of the program grants 18 points in the LANGUAGE category. Previously completing level 4 of the social integration program only got you 16 (or for some, 15) language points, with finishing the level 5 culture section not giving language points at all. Now however, they are giving 18 for language as well 10 in extra points, making finishing the program a whopping 28 point hit.
One other thing concerning the validity. When my application was completed and the worker gave me the confirmation document to bring back in a few weeks to get the new card, he gave he 5 years on the visa. I do not know if the possible validity period has increased also, or maybe he gave me 5 not knowing 3 was the limit. I do not expect when i get it back Sept. 3rd that it would really be good for 5 years...but if so there may have been a change in that also. |

Something that might be relevant; when I renewed my F2 visa years ago, I was told the visa would not expire past the expiry date of your passport. So your passport's validity is a limiting factor. |

Question: how is a dependent spouse affected by a switch from an E-1 to an F-2 visa? If I qualify and apply via the points system, would my husband remain on an F-3 visa? (He will probably actually be on an E-1 shortly, but wondering if being the spouse of an F-3 or F-5 visa holder grants the spouse any greater flexibility in employment options as well). |

Thanks, that helps quite a bit. I do know that when I contacted them way back when I first got the visa they told me that renewal of the F-2 beyond the three years would be possible. I don't know if that's true or the officer I spoke with was mistaken, but that's what they told me.
I'll probably give them a call again this week or next to get some more specific information about both visas.
Thanks again! |
Sorry to bump up an old post, but this is a question for @spaceman82
Now that it's been almost a year since the last post, did you find out how could be done about your visa? Were you able to renew the F-2 visa or apply for an F-5? Please share your experiences if possible. Thanks. |

Sorry for the late response. I'm in the process of trying to extend my visa now and will update you all on what happens and what I learn once I visit Immigration and get a decision from them. What I've been told so far, however, is that I should be able to renew my visa as long as I can present a housing contract and proof that I am working (employment contract) or studying (letter of enrollment from a university) in Korea. Time will tell if that's the case for me or not, but it seems to be the base standard at least. |

I was issued the F2-7 three years ago, and have just been to the Seoul immigration office to extend it this morning. I didn't know what to expect as I couldn't find any precise info online from people who had already extended, but I ended up getting a 5 year extension (VERY unexpected!).
I took along all the documents originally needed for the F2-7, but they didn't need my TOPIK or KIIP completion certificates, and only checked my most recent tax document and employment contract. Obviously the visa isn't tied to your workplace, but it seems they do want proof that you're doing something! They also requested a copy of my housing contract, which wasn't necessary when I got the visa in the first place in 2013. I didn't need to provide evidence of savings etc.
YMMV but this was my experience - just posting for others who may be in the same boat. Just to be clear it's still an F2. |

mine is in the mail. immigration officer called me and said only its being delivered and a nice "congratulations" most likely being im in a small country town. i asked him how long the visa is issued for and he said 3 years off the bat. ive lived here 10 years with an ma tesol and decent korean so im sure it all added up. In saying this though my coworker got 5 years for the same visa! major mistake from them im sure. |
