| I got my criminal record check. It arrived today. I have a question: for U.K. applicants, does the criminal record check have to be notarised by a lawyer as well as apostilled? If so it seems like bureaucracy for bureaucracy's sake. |

| Yes, it has to be notarised first, and not all lawyers are notaries. Although it does seem pointess, it's because notarisation and apostille deal with two different things - the notary makes something a certified genuine document in the UK, then the apostille makes it internationally certified. The apostille office can't authentcate a document internationally which hasn't been certified at a national level first. |

If you can wait 4-5 days, send it back to DIsclosure Scotland and ask the resident notary to sign it for you (it's free of charge). |

| It's outrageous! More more orders from the tapeworms of bureaucracy. I am especially angry because the lawyer at Disclosure Scotland ignored my request for him to sign and certify it. I explained in my e-mail that I wanted this done, but they paid no attention. I now have the choice of going to a local solicitor, who may accept my request, or ask for MORE paperwork. Or I could send it back to Disclosure Scotland with a note to explain. Does Disclosure Scotland still have a resident notary? |

Yes, it arrived 4 days after sending it back to them. Mine was signed by the head of operations, which was fine for getting an apostille and the visa from the London embassy. The legalisation office already has signatures from Disclosure Scotland officials, so they will issue the apostille within 2 working days.
A few other tips:
When sending your documents to Korea, do not use Royal Mail. Use a courier such as DHL, Parcelforce etc. which will deliver within 5 days. I sent mine via. Royal Mail airsure (their fastest service) and it took 10 days to arrive and I could not track it once it had left the UK.
The embassy takes 5 working days to process your visa from the date of the receipt. Taking your passport personally into the embassy does not speed up the process. You can track your application status here which will show if your visa has been approved:

Click on diplomatic service, enter your passport number. Enter your surname first followed by your first name and your date of birth. |

They pay for the return postage, no need to include an envelope. |

I got a job offer in late September and flew over on 30th October. |

| You can track Royal Mail after it has left the UK, right up to delivery in Korea, both on Royal Mail's website and on Korea Post's website. I regularly receive postal items from the UK and track them every step of the way. If you have enough time, RM is fine and a lot cheaper, but if you're in a rush, use a courier. |

What are the FULL application documents I need for 1) a public school job starting now or in 2016? 2) hagwon positions.
So far I have a copy of my notarised and apostilled degree. I have, or will have very soon, an apostilled criminal record check, which is now also notarised. I have a reference letter from a previous public school job in Jeollanamdo. I have other reference letters.
Do I also need to get sealed university transcripts? If so, do I have to get 2 or even 3 copies in 3 separate envelopes?
I realise that for some jobs, particularly public school jobs, require a detailed application form to be filled out. As it happens, I still have the completed application form, and personal essay from 2003. What else will they throw at me? Is it advisable to create a self-introduction video? |

For public schools, you need 2 copies of transcripts. The transcrips must be stamped and then sealed by the University. If there are any signs of tampering/tiny tears at the edge etc. they will not be accepted.
You also need an apostilled birth certificate.
For private schools, you don't need transcripts/birth certificates.
All I sent to the embassy in London was the paperwork (application form+consulate checklist+ebola form), 2 photographs, my passport and the postal order for £125. You can visit in person (but only between 10-12) but it doesn't speed up the process. |
