I'm leaving Korea in a month and I have no idea about how to bring the dog. The stuff I've read online is not very helpful. I am aware how to get the appropriate paperwork from the vet, the dog is crate trained and I have a crate. I'm flying to America.

Here are my worries.

1. I'm running away from my job in December and I'm worried they'll delay the dog's transport due to temperatures.

2. How the heck do I get in contact with the airline? I have been surfing Asiana's website and the only number to call is IN KOREAN.

3. Does it cost more?

Please don't tell me I should have been more responsible and considered this when I got the dog. The dog was bought for me, without my permission.

I knew someone in a similar position, and this is what they did: shipped the dog to the USA via air cargo in advance. This was during Winter 2013. I believe there was a mandatory quarantine period on the other end, and they had friends or relatives who were living there, so could thus be contacted locally in the arrival city (Portland, OR) by airline authorities. Later, they boarded an airplane in the ROK and flew ICN-PDX to the same city where the dog was in storage, the arrival to coincide with the expiration of the dog's stay, and picked up the dog a day or two later. I was told the entire dog shipping cost was equivalent to 1.5x the cost of flying coach as a human. I just had a quick look at Delta Airlines website. A quote of 880,000 KRW was offered there for travel a month hence, but there were specific inputs like crate size, breed, age, weight which go into the cost calculation, and since I know not, I guessed there. That quotation was just the base fare, and there seem to be many other fees to be considered, not to mention the customs documentation.

It depends on the country you are flying to.

Call the Asiana number that you have. They will put you in touch with someone who speaks English.

1. Temperatures? Where are you going, or where are you coming from? Doesn't matter, at least with my experiences with CATS. (Toronto dudes are fine as long as you pay the money. They'd let a rabid monkey through, as long as you weren't trying to let it get a breath of air INSIDE of the terminal bldg!). I have a fight at EVERY airport I go to. Doesn't matter if I'm bringing some toothaste, a bottle of soda, family, dental floss, saline solution, insulin, or crack. Someone there always has a problem with sth being TOO big, or TOO small, or TOO suspicious.

2. You probably don't have to get in contact with the airline! Get those papers you mentioned in order, and have them ready when you arrive. And, arrive early! They're gonna try to quarantine puppy for a bit b4 flight. They do that with CATS, too. Don't arrive 5 minutes b4 your flight departs, and expect 1st-class service, which you weren't paying for anyway for you or your dog anyway, right?

3. Again, does WHAT cost more? You are going to have to pay at least 300, maybe 500 these days (sorry but I haven't left this god4saken place w a pet in nearly 10 years) to get a "seat" for your animal. But, yeah, fat people gotta pay more, so pets aren't free either...don't think they've ever been free, have they?

Did in in 04. Your vet will know what to do. They do an exam and give you paperwork/certificate stating your pet is healthy and up to date on the shots. You get an aircraft certified carrier with these stickers that are applied on the carrier. Your vet probably sells them. You have to buy the ticket whatever it costs (the hound travels in cargo) and you show up at Incheon with your pup in it's carrier with the stickers and the paperwork. You go somewhere downstairs with the paperwork (call Incheon Airport info) check her in and say goodbye for 15 hours. We landed in SFO and our pup was in it's carrier in baggage claim before the luggage. I bet your vet will know what to do.

All the vet shops near the Yongsan base (go to Ichon station) know how to get you setup for the trip. They all have English service as well.

Where are you going in the US?
If temperatures are over 27 C then be concerned.
But fall is a good time to travel.

Depending on the size of the dog, it can travel with you in the cabin under a seat.

Use an American airline like United and you can call the toll free number and speak to someone in English.
Just look up Delta, American, etc and look for their pet policies.

I will go to Seattle next summer. It is cooler up there and for dogs it is less travel time.

It costs more if you don't travel with your pet.
If you do, it costs a little more (200 bucks?).

I have two miniature schnauzers, so I think about this topic a fair bit.

Heading to Portland Oregon with a stop off in Vancouver in December. Hopefully it will all work out. In the end, I got a way better deal on a ticket with Air Canada. So sussing it all out with be okay, because Air Canada does English, of course.

You will want to know about how your dog will be treated in Vancouver.
So your pet should get fed and have time to pee.
Don't know if there would be a walk.

You want the fastest flight for your pet.
Does Canada have a quarantine?

Yes, Air Canada should be cheaper.

At Sea-Tac I think there is a space for dogs so they can even move around outside,

My wife got a dog at a shelter in Arkansas and the dog flew by herself
from Little Rock to Chicago, then to San Francisco, and finally to Osaka.
Her dog was fine.

How much does your dog weigh?

Air Canada does not transport animals in cargo after November 1st.

Also you have to contact the airline and make sure they room for your dog. Only 2 are allowed per flight.

So what about clearing customs? That must be a pain with a dog.
If the layover is long enough it does give a dog a break,
since flying is stressful.
