Hi guys

Its been a while since I applied from scratch for positions in Korea.

I was wondering when the latest time I can apply to recruiters for a March 1st 2016 (spring) position is? I am from the UK so there aren't any excessive waiting times for documents and I already have some of my documents as it goes.

Thanks

realistically a couple months before, however there are always a bunch of ASAP jobs near the end of Feb.

Well, that's a relief. I am in exactly the same position as the OP. I am from the U.K. It's a relief to read that I still have plenty of time. I have some documents but not all. I applied for but I don't yet have the criminal record check. State schools are on my list of options. I would like to start on March 1st. However, despite what people say about an oversupply of western English teachers; recruiters are sending me jobs. This is even though I have been out of Korea for over a year. Some state schools-with no foreign teacher wanted a foreign teacher to start in the middle of this semester. But the deadline was less than a week after I got the message.
If you are reapplying to public schools, make sure you give yourself plenty of time to complete application forms, and any accompanying lesson plan or essay you need to apply.
I am also being sent jobs from language mills in the private sector, and I may even accept one of them.

I just wanted to add one more thing. I applied online to Korvia Consulting, a recruiter that deals with public schools and has a good reputation. They gave me a curt little reply, rejecting me forthwith. Basically they have nothing for me at this time. I wanted to apply for jobs in GEPIK starting in March. I have experience, reference letters, and TESOL. I can prove this. I have all my paperwork except the transcripts.
What's going on? I see individual public schools advertising in Gyeonggi-do.

Korvia are a bunch of d!cks to be honest. They did exactly the same to me and I have a similar spec with you. They have too much control in recruiting imho. Ive also worked with them before; trust me, never again!

I heard Gyeonggi-do schools are getting teachers through EPIK now. May have something to do with it...

Well, I am beginning to wonder. They DID send me quite a curt, unfriendly reply. Korvia did use to be absolutely great. But that was in 2005. But then I pulled out of the application because another employer offered me something different. Might they still have my records from 2005 and bear a grudge because I pulled out of EPIK then? I do wonder.

For your information KORVIA is STILL advertising for GEPIK positions starting in March. You see EPIK hasn't absorbed GEPIK yet. Honestly, I sometimes think the recruiters, EPIK, GEPIK etc. don't know what they want.

Some recruiters still advertise SMOE positions too even though EPIK is recruiting for that. It could just be a marketing ploy. That's pure speculation though.
