A year ago, my university told me and the only other foreigner that one of us would be let go this year, based on evals. In fact, they refused to show us te evals.

I have been here 3.5 years and am leaving anyway. I suspect they planned on letting me go now so that I dont pass the 4 year mark.

However, I was checking the labor laws and I think they had to tell me at least four months prior to the end of the contract, and if not, then auto renewal kicks in. Then that would make it 4.5 years and I can stay....

Can anyone confirm the 4 month rule?

Labor Law - from KOREAN Labor Standards Act

Article 27 (Written Notification of Reasons for Dismissal)
(1) If an employer intends to dismiss a worker, the employer shall notify the worker of reasons for dismissal and the date of such dismissal in writing.
(2) The dismissal of a worker shall take effect only after the written notification is given to the worker pursuant to paragraph (1).
