Is it true that if you have used narcotics within the last 5 years, that it is impossible to obtain a Korean E-2 Visa? The last time I used narcotics was in January of 2013. All that I have ever done is Marijuana and no other drugs.
Also, please do not suggest that I lie, as that is not an option for me. |

You will be asked if you have ever done narcotics; example, marijuana. You may be asked to answer, on a form, if you have done narcotics. Since you have done narcotics, and to lie isn't an option for you, you probably won't be able to work in Korea. |

As lying is not an option, and you will declare having used marijuana, you will not be approved for an E2 visa to work in Korea. As it will long have left your system and won't be detected in the drug screen in your medical, if lying was an option for you, (barring any problems unrelated to drug use) you would probably have no issue getting the visa. |

Yep, no Korea for you. Sorry bud. Also, congratulations Kimmi, your self-declaration form on narcotic use finally kept someone out. |

Based on your question, you don't have to lie. Just increase your awareness of the definition of the word narcotic. According to just about any major dictionary definition, you do not have to include Marijuana as a narcotic, regardless of who else includes it as a narcotic.
Q - Have you used narcotics?
A - No.
So, it comes down to the wording on the form. And even then, a good command of semantics/pragmatics will give you a lot of options to answer the form without lying. |

Thank you everyone for the information, I appreciate.
Lying isn't an option for me because, I plan on applying for law enforcement jobs here in the states and a common disqualifier is lying on any official documents, specifically for obtaining jobs. |

That seems so strange to me. You can be a narcotics user, but you can't ever tell a lie to work in law enforcement. Not being critical of you, OP, but I find the system to be off.
Best of luck to you. If you are this rigid with your morals and enjoy weed, then teaching in Korea would have been difficult for you anyway. |

well i haven't used it in over 3 years....so it's not a double standard in the law enforcement standard. They have requirements, generally 3-5 years separated from marijuana before you can even apply to be an officer. other drugs are 5-10 years. |

If they ask: Have you every used narcotics?
Answer: I do not use narcotics of any kind.
This is not a lie. and they will probably not ask for anymore information |

Is this one of those jobs in the future where they get you do a polygraph and ask something like "have you lied on a form in the past 4 years?"
The machine starts to react when you say "no"
That's the only (good) reason I can think of not to lie.
FFS! Just lie. |

Well, to get technical, the "self-assessment" form is not an official document. It's not notarized, apostilled, signed in blood or wax-sealed.
Oh, and it's also not a document specifically for obtaining a job. It's for obtaining a visa. |

6/10
2/10 for originality
10/10 for getting people to actually respond to someone so obvious |
