|
|
Normally just taught speaking and writing at previous schools but this one I am teaching a lot of listening classes.
Seems very mundane and boring. ie
Play tract.
Take notes.
Answer questions.
Whats the best way to structure this class and how to make it more fun / engaging? |

^^
Listening should never be done as a passive activity as you described.
Not appropriate for every lesson, but you can generally follow something like this:
1. Introduce the lesson, connect to prior knowledge- ask focus/guiding questions after showing picture/video/situation to the students
2. Get students to predict the vocabulary they will hear / the dialogue that will be used / discussing the solution or problem / completing a KWL chart
3. Have students complete an activity while listening- matching pictures to the story / taking notes on main idea / organizing a flow chart / filling in information - make it active
4. Do an extension activity with the students- do a similar activity as an information gap or jigsaw etc |
