Greetings,
I have worked in Korea twice previously, at both a hagwan and a PS, last in 2008. I am considering returning in late 2016 or early 2017 and was wondering what the job market is like for someone with my experience.
First off, the misses really wants to spend some time in Korea so that is one of the main reasons for coming. I know that in Korea, like most places, the better jobs to be had are for those who are already there, so I'm not too bothered about my job the first year-- we'll check the place out and if she likes it, I'll find a better job if we plan to stay. Still, I'd obviously like to get the best job possible so any feedback on my chances would be greatly appreciated. Also, we may have a baby while we are there, if that makes any difference, and we would prefer to be in Seoul.
Me:
American
BA, CELTA, CELTA-YL extension
17 years experience
IELTS examiner
6+ years YL experience
8+ years university experience
2 years management experience
44 years old
I have worked for the British Council numerous times, so that would be a decent option, although getting a job with the BC can be tricky, random and not always possible when you need it.
What other options would I have? If I remember correctly, the PS I worked at in 2008 paid about 2.5 million, and had around 6-7 weeks of holiday-- I don't see any jobs like this posted, so I guess something has changed?
Anyway, thanks in advance for your thoughts. |

Well, the jobs may have changed a bit but it's good to know the same useless twats are still hanging round here...
The pirate grammar was intentional....the misspelling not...but really, this is how you amuse yourself ?!? Well done, sirs!
I have a life... clearly the he last thing I'm going to do is waste my time giving this forum 'a good read.' |

Was just a joke, but I would imagine that you know what you are getting into as far as Korea goes.
Are their jobs for you and your wife? Yup
Are they going to be higher level positions like you held in the past? probably not
You are probably looking at public school, after school or hakwon spots. Unfortunately the CELTA doesn't mean much to employers here. |

This. I second the assessment of GrowlingMadScientist regarding life wasted. If one is uninterested in reading, then others likewise will be uninterested in writing. Doubly so for lack of humor. Good luck. |

Arrr, jokes be good. The collection of responses just seemed a bit snarky, so apologies if I misinterpreted.
Thanks very much for the information. |

See above post re: apology for coming across as lacking humor.
It didn't seem as if people were uninterested in writing, just that they were uninterested in writing anything helpful. I did search a bit on this forum, but there are tons n tons of posts and there didn't seem to be much that was both readily available and related to my particular query, perhaps due to my background being fairly different from your typical Korea aspirant. A post requesting information didn't seem wholly inappropriate. |

You are worth about 2.1 million and 10 days for holidays. |

Apologies, good sir. I am but a humble troll. How then shall I make amends? What didst thou in thy mind have? |

Hear hear! Plus a second for this assessment, as the days of doing little in return for much of yore are long, and forever gone:
