Hi guys,

I'm interested in pursuing a public school teaching position in Korea.
I'm already an art teacher in the US.

I was wondering -- at what point during the school year will your public school ask you to renew your contract? And are there repercussions if you renew and then bow out before the next school year starts? (They all start in August/September, right?)

My concern is this: I think I'll only want to stay in Korea for a year or two. But I will only feel comfortable departing Korea if I already have another teaching job lined up in the US. (And I'd only be able to line up a US job between May and early August.) .... I'd be terrified of not renewing my Korea contract and then flying home with only *hopes* of finding a job.

Any info or advice on how to work around that?
Thanks so much for your input!

PS jobs are usually renewed formally about 30-60 days before the renewal date. You can only extend your visa during the last 30 days of your ARC.

Until you sign the new contract there is nothing confirmed.

The school year in Korea runs from March to December with kids returning for 2 weeks in February to deal with end of year stuff.

IF you are a certified teacher in the States then quit looking on EFL boards. Start looking at international schools on teachers job sites ( www.tes.co.uk, www.searchassociates.com , www.internationalschoolsreview.com , etc.)

The pay and benefits are better and their school year better coincides with that in the US.
