Hi,

I was supposed to leave in a few weeks to start teaching, however the manager of the school emailed me to inform me that my position is cancelled and no longer needed me (school apparently had not many students enrolled for the semester) .

I found out the bad news at the same day when i picked up my passport at the Korean embassy with the E2 Visa stamped ready to go. It took me a few days to process the news..i was literally shattered, and also given the fact it was a lengthy and costly process. Oh wells..;(


Now that I have my visa, I am looking for other teaching jobs. Do i need to cancel my current E2 visa and reapply the whole process again? I am still in Australia and haven't left to Korea yet.

You do not need to re-do your Visa, the only annoyance will be getting another apostilled diploma and CBC since I'm guessing the job that cancelled on you did not send those back?

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong--I'm from USA so not quiteee sure if Australia's apostille process is the same.

Your position was dismissed before or after you signed a contract? :O Just curious.

Oh wow. I can't believe this can actually happen. It happened to me too in the last month, and when I found out that my contract was cancelled and my job dissolved, I was also devastated. I felt like someone had punched my heart. I used Footprints recruiting, which I assumed was a reputable company. I sent my documents along with the signed contract and the hagwon who was to hire me received them in 3 days. 3 days after that, I got a call from the recruiter telling me that immigration told the director that it would take 2 weeks to process my visa (this is normal--1 week on their end and 1 week at the embassy in the States) so she told the parents of the students who were enrolled in my class which i was to teach, and pulled their kids out of the class. It sounded really fishy to me, so I asked the recruiter, "Are you sure this is the real reason?". She paused and said, "That's what she told me".

Luckily, I was able to get my FBI check and diploma back. I did a little sleuthing of my own and found out that hagwon has hired 2 new teachers recently! Now I'm dealing with trying to cancel the visa which was never canceled, so that I can get a visa issued for another job which I accepted.

My FBI check runs out in 2 weeks, so I'm hoping this will be a smooth process. Don't give up, unknown24. I hope you got your documents back. Good luck.

Hello unknown24, This is just an idea, but perhaps it might work. If you can get in contact with the school who cancelled your contract, letting them know that they have put you in a tight spot (say it nicely and diplomatically) and ask that they provide a 'Letter of Release', then perhaps you can transfer the visa which you received from immigration for a new job. That's what we're trying to do with my visa right now. I hope it works. Maybe someone else on this forum can give you ideas? Fight back and don't accept, the 'Sorry, but you're screwed' attitude from the school which cancelled your contract.

Personally, unknown24, I would go for one of the public school programs starting in September, if you have to do the documents all over again, which can take a few months. Be open to location. I had no desire to be in Seoul (I live in crazy NYC). There is more vacation time and they work you less hours, I hear.

You can do it! I know you can. This is the universe testing us, asking us, "Do you really want to teach in a hagwon, really?". Many of the positions have hardly any vacation. One contract said that if I have a death in the family and I'm gone for more than 3 days, they can cancel my contract!

I worked with a lot of recruiters, and I liked working with the recruiter Seoul Esl. I do not recommend Footprints or Ask Now-ETO.

Just an update guys. I received an offer for a public school and they are willing to help me transfer my E2 Visa over, just wondering if anyone knows that i will need to provide the docs again??
