I'd appreciate comments if you have experience of both countries. I worked in Taiwan for 3 years, mostly enjoyed it, especially the bits when I wasn't at work. I am thinking of coming to Korea in September.

I have taught in both places and it really depends on what you are looking at. Overall, I found Korean big cities to be more interesting than Taiwan's but there are a lot of things I miss from Taiwan being in Korea. If you have specific areas of interest such as money, nightlife...whatever I'll happily give my opinion.

Not to be a wise A... but do a search on this site. This subject has been covered hundreds of times and very recently I might add. You need to visit and teach in both countries in order to make up YOUR mind and see which one is best for YOU.
I think the over whelming majority would choose Taiwan over korea any day in teaching ESL. It all comes down to what you are looking for and feel comfortable.
Taiwan was and is by far the best choice for me having been in both countries for many years. But, it's HUMID! Not as many contract violations in Taiwan as in korea. Yes, Taiwan has them and so do other places but it's the norm in korea.

I worked in Taiwan for two years and in Korea for about four years.

My time in Taiwan was significantly more interesting and enjoyable. I found the people friendly, helpful and much less insular. The weather was not always pleasant but I do like that type weather better than Korean weather.

That said, I am now in Korea again - because I can save more and get much more vacation time here (I work only colleges and universities).
But, I am older now and want to save more for eventual retirement. If I was a younger man - I might stay in Taiwan.

In Korea I have lived in Pusan, Taejon and now in a smaller city outside Seoul - all ho-hum. In Taiwan, I lived on in Taipei - and loved that city.

Taiwan, Korea or whatever - don't limit yourself to just two countries. Get yourself as qualified as possible and you'll have dozens of possibilities.
