Greetings,
I have returned back to the United States after having lived in South Korea for 7-years.
I would like to view 2~3 example cover letters and job resumes of those individuals here who have actually reapplied for work back in their home countries after an "extended overseas gap years." [Please delete your real name and real address if you plan to allow me to see your cover letter and job resume].
I am attempting to rewrite mine, and at the same time would like to view other real examples in re-writing mine so that I can "set the correct tone" in re-drafting them.
Please PM me if you would like to assist me in this matter, and I'll forward you my email address and show you what I have written so far. All I would need is to view 2~3 real-life job resumes of those individuals who were "returning expats who searched for work coming back home."
I have attempted to rewrite my cover letter 3-times so far, but the tone sounds "needy for work," rather than I have something of value to offer them compared to others who have remained in the United States searching for work for over the past 7-years.
All I need to do is lay my eyes on 2~3 real-life example cover letters and job resumes and I'll know how to "set the correct professional tone" in rewriting my own, along with follow-up proofreading and some valuable pointers. Again, I am not quite "wording my cover letter properly" and it is coming-off as a "bit needy for full-time work in its tone." I require a second set of eyes here from the ESL expat community, rather than my acquaintances and relatives from back home, who are usually there to tell me that "everything looks good," when I require a more objective advice and feedback.
I am consolidating 7-years worth of full-time and part-time ESL jobs in South Korea down to a compact 3 places of employment (Business English, hagwon/tutoring, etc.) along with excellent references from my former South Korean employers. I also have worked with an employer back in the states online for 3-years (2012~present day) who happens to have been my employer back in the states from 2003~2009, so I am planning to incorporate that information into my new cover letter and new job resume, and starting my past employment history from the United States from the early 2000's (Since the time I graduated with a BA.), and leaving-off any work history prior to the year 2000 off of my job resume (Unless, they happen to be relevant to the present day job(s) that I am applying for.).
Importantly, I may also need someone to follow-up proofread my work, to ensure everything looks decent, as I want to make sure "It looks professionally right," considering I have to explain that I was working simultaneously with my United States employer online in South Korea while actually teaching ESL in South Korea, at the same time (I want to ensure that my wording is correct, because I have tried writing it 3-times on my own and my explanation sounds "too needy for work after having lived abroad for 7-years," and it sounds "a bit unwieldy" explaining that one down on paper. It doesn't quite look right to me on paper explaining and consolidating my United States work history with my overseas ESL work history; cover letters and job resumes are more carefully examined by the HR for proper grammar and keywords nowadays.
At the present, I am applying for work in my city here in the United States. The job is something to "tide me over" until I decide to return to school for "supplemental training" (I presently have a BA in English Education.), or find greater "full-time, professional work" in the near future.
Much assistance is greatly appreciated. |

I would suggest that you visit an employment center where you are living right now, or at your alma matter. Barring that, there are lots of companies that will help you with your resume and cover letter for a fee. If you want a professional looking resume and cover letter, you need professional help.
Also, your cover letter should be different for each and every job you apply to. Do not apply for jobs with a generic cover letter. |
