What are the differences and similarities?
It always surprised me how so few Ks could answer the question. |

Why does that surprise you? I have been to 2 of the 3 countries listed, and I couldn't give you an accurate response. I've only spent a few weeks in Japan, while on vacation, so I couldn't accurately comment about their culture. At best, anything I could talk about would probably just end up being stereotypes.
I think it is wrong to answer this question unless a person has lived (more than 1 year) in all 3 locations. And then, did they really immerse themselves or just stick to their own habits but in a foreign location. That's what human nature wants us to do, but some people are able to step outside of their comfort zone better than others.
Again, I don't know why you would look down upon Koreans for not knowing something that is quite complex and unique to such a small sample of people on this earth. |

How many Americans couldn't tell you squat about Canada or Mexico? Or ignorantly downplay differences between the British and American cultures?
If you're interested, there is a TON of lit on comparative culture studies. Nobody wakes up in the morning knowing everything; it takes study and experience. |

Because...Maybe the language barrier, or the way you asked the question, like in your title, made it extremely vague?
I mean, it isn't even a question, the way you've phrased it in your title.
Secondly, I don't know you, but if I were to ask you, in, let's say a language you had a moderate proficiency in, to discuss cultural differences between a couple of different countries, would you maybe think that maybe this wasn't was covered in your regular textbooks and conversation classes?
I don't know. Just a couple random seemingly obvious thoughts. |

OR perhaps, those from Japan and China would would be able, in some way, to answer the question. |

It's actually quite a common topic for TEFL textbooks.

And rightly or wrongly, students are expected to have opinions on how their culture is different from others. |
