Newbie,

Just out of curiousity, what specific aspects of Korean culture do you hold so much respect for?

Plus, being from Canada, it's just such a chillin' and safe place to grow up ... aside from Toronto these days.

where i grew up in Canada ppl were doing drugs, getting pregnant, and basically being bad a**es from elementary on up. I have no want to put my kids through that.

IMO theres good and bad to both systems. If the situation is right.. i'd stay here.

What makes it more likely for you to abuse your child in Korea?

I agree with the first guy. I would not put my "mixing" child through the Korean system. I will stay until I think the child has been tormented enough and go live in a developed country with a future. Any person living with a child(twinkey) in Korea over the age of 6 is clearly a fuqknuckle.

Or perhaps he is just trolling.

You're right. And, I should not be so defensive.

Korea is the leading country among the members of the OECD in the number of traffic deaths involving children. According to the police, last year there were 19,266 traffic accidents involving elementary school or preschool children. That was an increase of 13 percent over last year, when 338 children died. In foreign countries, there are special traffic rules regarding school buses. Cars have to stop when they unload. Many buses also have special devices. We have to educate our school bus drivers and those from any company that shuttles children around. While the police should be responsible for that, we have to make this into a law as well.

I'm not sure if anyone's mentioned it, or perhaps it was assumed by some...but it does make a huge difference in answering this question if you're married to a Korean.

As a white woman married to a white man, having no family ties or cultural belonging in Korea, there are many reasons for us to raise our children elsewhere. (no, we don't have kids yet, but we have made it abundantly clear to each other that when we do, Korea is off the list of places in the world to live)

If someone has a half-Korean half-(insert other country) kid, then it's a whole different ballgame.

just a thought

I wouldn't want to see my son drafted into the army and have his creativity, and hopes for the future destroyed before my very eyes.

At least any kids I may have won't have to go to an English academy.

Ask Koreans and those that have lived in Korea for several years?
Generally, where are the best jobs in Korea? Where are the best universities? Where are the best hospitals? Where are the most international clinics? Where are the most English (or foreign language) services?

Are there two South Koreas?
1. Seoul
2. Every place outside of Seoul

No RR,

There are many different kinds of living conditions in Korea like there are many in Canada, the US, France, England, Russia, Australia, Mexico, Brazil.... Rolling Eyes

I live in Busan, we are quite confortable there. Not that much air pollution in our area (there is some of course).

Perhaps she meant that her area was not that polluted or simply that Seoul is the center of activity in Korea but not the only place to live...
