I'll try to keep this short & concise - I have a question. I work for a hagwon that is connected to a Korean kindergarten. The kindy is totally Korean, no westerners work there. I teach English at the hagwon, and my students are either current or former students of the kindy. They come and visit me in the hagwon, which a separate space, thus making it legal and no issues.

The kindy is currently owned by a very nice lady, who is a retired teacher. Her son actually runs the place, and he is also my boss at the hagwon. He is a great person, and has always been more than fair with me on everything. Anyway, mom wants to fully retire and is handing over full ownership of the kindy to the son. He informed me that during this transfer of ownership, the kindy will close down for 2 to 6 months as all the necessary paperwork and inspections are completed.

Does this sound legit? The reason I ask, is that it would mean that I would be out of work when the kindy shuts down. I want to know if I should count on the job returning within a few months or if it is time to move on. I have until March 1st to figure it all out.

Thanks for the replies in advance folks. Any school owners / operators would really like to hear from you.

Plan on moving on, sooner rather than later.
IF you are lucky they may finish the school year.

Make sure you have your ducks in a row to transfer your visa, switch to a D10 or jump to another country.

Keep your ear to the ground for finding a new job without losing too much in the process (lower wages, fewer benefits, etc) from where you are now.

Thanks for this. Not what I was hoping for, but I appreciate the truth more than anything. I think it's time to take a break from Korea and teaching and relax on a beach somewhere for a while.
