There's a brand new sitcom from Canada entitles 'Kim's Convenience,' which centres around a Korean-Canadian family living in Toronto. Has anyone watched it? If so, what are your thoughts?

I've only watched the 1st episode, but will watch some more.

Overall, it was watchable. Pretty good. Not terrible, and definitely not wonderful.

Main (bad) things that stuck out for me were...

1. Mr. Kim's accent was WAY too laboured. Didn't sound anything like I hear from actually Koreans in Korea learning English....or any actual Korean Canadians whom I've spoken to. It seemed to be a mix of Mr. Choi, Mr. Miyagi, and Mr. Zhang.

2. The actors. Anyone who knows anything about Korean family names would know the brother is not Korean.

3. The Handy car rental manager. Not just over the top, but unrealistically stupid. "I need my insulin. OK, I'll just have an orange." Huh???

Good things...

1. Pretty accurate portrayal of Canadian (or any) family life. Angst of children and their growing pains along with perceived interference by perhaps good-willed parents.

2. Social issues. The "Gay Discount" was played well enough...again, a bit over the top, but not too bad.
