|
|
Went to the doctor two weeks ago. Was told I didn't have insurance. My employer said employees don't get insurance until three months later (I started in late August) so he said I should have insurance as of December. Is this normal or even legal?
Also, I am (supposedly) on the Korean National Insurance plan. He says I have health insurance now. My co worker who has been there for 1 year does have health insurance.
The contract also does not state specifically when the health insurance is supposed to kick in. |

Consider yourself lucky that you have a chance of ever getting it at all.
Many employers will classify you as a "contractor" and not pay pension nor health insurance. Ain't it good to know that Korean employers and the government cares about us so much?
As far as is being "legal" remember that Korea is a divided peninsula. This is the way things are done on a divided peninsula. Your Korean boss is behaving exactly how he/she believes that he/she is expected to behave.
Make sure that you continue to follow up about being enrolled. Be assertive and persistent. Shit happens and you want to be insured.
Best of luck to you. |

Make absolutely sure that you have been enrolled in the pension for the FULL term of your contract. Have you had deductions for health and pension so far?
I'd call bs on the 'three month before enrollment' thing. Check your deductions. Pension and health are part and parcel. |

I am going to get my pay stubs tonight. I am pretty sure deductions were made since, according to my bank balance, about 200,000 was deducted from the past two paychecks. I will confirm with pay stubs though. |

I checked with the pension office. I was enrolled in the pension program as of yesterday. |

Your employer is not ripping you off.
The rules changed concerning medical insurance a while back.
You have to pay in for three months before you get covered.
I guess there were too many cases of fraud --gyopos flyping over for cheap medical care. There is an English helpline that you can call. They speak very good English |
