I am an academic Director at an "American" school. I have an F5 visa, and have been told that I would only work there a month or two more. by the owner The reasons for this is really a lack of communication between the owners and me. Do they have to give a written one month notice ? I have never been in this situation before. Advice please!!!

It all depends on how long you have worked there.

If you have worked there less than 6 months, they can fire you at anytime for any reason.

If you have worked there for 6 months or more, they have to give you one month's notice or one month's salary in lieu there of.

This law changed last year, and now they are required to give you 30 days notice or 30 days pay regardless how long you have worked there.

They do need to give you notice in writing, verbal is not sufficient.

It changed? Can you give me a link to an article about that?

No, I didn't read it in an article, I got the information from someone who lives im my building who was fired without notice after 4 months and went to the labor board - they got the 30 days pay and were told the law changed in regards to the 6 month probationary period. Next time I see him I'll ask if he has the specific details.
