Okay, I'm in a bit of a sticky situation now. I finished my last contract on May 7, on that day I moved to a temporary place in Seoul to do job interviews. My ARC card expires on June 6th and I'm leaving Korea on June 2nd to take a 1 month break in America. (I got a round trip ticket coming back on July 7th, I'm planning to start work as soon as I can after I come back.)
I called immigration today and since I'm going to use my friend's address, they told me that I need my friend's housing contract and I have to go to the Incheon immigration office since her home is in Incheon.
I have the itinerary for the temporary place I'm staying, but the lady on the phone made it sound like they wouldn't accept that.
So all of this sounds like a pain in the butt, now I'm wondering would it be easier to just forget about the D-10, go home and make a new e2 visa once I get my new job?? I don't want to do everything all over again, what do I need to do?? |

3 potential scenarios all with different pains in the butt to deal with.
1) D10. Get a copy of her residence / housing contract and go to the immigration office that has jurisdiction where she/you live. Cost about 20k won for transportation and lunch and take a day out of your life.
2) Fly home and return as a tourist to find new work.
You will, unless you have a return to America / exit ticket, have problems with the airline when you attempt to board the international return portion of your flight since the requirement for visa-free entry into Korea is return/onward passage and the airline is responsible for your removal cost if there is a problem.
You don't have residence (no valid ARC) so you need to meet the requirements for visa free entry.
What is the cost of the extra airline ticket when compared to a bus/subway and lunch?
What is the cost of being denied boarding at check-in if you don't have the onward ticket?
3) Fly home and get a new E2 from home? Not going to happen within your travel plan window.
I know which pain I would prefer to deal with but the options are yours.

I guess you're right. I'm just having a hard time making this reservation, I already installed the program but then nothing happens.
Hopefully they'll just accept me if I go tomorrow since it's the last possible day I can go before the 14 days is over |

As long as you get there the 14 days to report a material change is done and your allowed period of stay gets extended to the end of your ARC or 30 days from the end of employment (which ever comes first).

They stopped taking walk-ins about two years ago (at least in Seoul).
Use internet explorer, get an appointment and tell them you moved in to your friends apartment a week ago. Explain you were able to stay at your old place for an extra week, they won't check. |

Not sure if Korean visa rules are different for Americans (I'm Canadian).
Transferring to a D10 visa saves you a lot of time and hassle because you won't need to get new documents (ie. criminal check, notarized degrees, etc.). D10 'holds' your docs. It doesn't cancel them (which would happen if you left Korea and came back trying to find work).
It will take a few weeks to process your D10 in Korea and you can't leave the country. But once you're officially granted your D10 status/visa, you can leave the country and come back. |

Can you go to the immigration office that is closest to you, or, do you have to go to the office in which the original E-2 was issued?
For example, if someone is staying in Jamsil, does he/she have to go to Suwon as that is where the original E-2 was issued? |

I believe you have to go to the original immigration branch that issued your E2. Double check and call immigration though. |
