So you know most of it now? Got the hogwan thing down. How about the Uni thing? The corporate? Get married yet? Dealt with the in-laws? Rented or bought a house yourself? Where can I get Diet Iced Tea? How do I get on base? What are the labour laws like? How do I get out of a contract? Where can I find good greek food? Son you know squat.

| This is the 6th country I have lived and worked in and I encounter this attitude in just about every one. |
Each country is very very different. And maybe there is a reason people treat you like this in every country. That sounds like its you and not the rest of the world thats the problem. 6 countries really just says you are so socially unfit and can't make it anywhere.

| Its generally the loud mouthed, drunken *beep* at the bar who speaks the lingo loudly and poorly and bignotes his ability to do so. Moreover, he's generally the disfunctional wierdo who can't function or get laid at home. Sound familiar |
My Korean is actually much worse than it should be. My wife is a translator so English is all we speak. I was a finacial planner before I came here and have dated 2 models in the past. I really think someone else said it best, something about looking in the mirror you noob.

I'm glad that you got a lawyer for probono! Good luck with that, and maybe ask him/her if you should give out his/her name to other teachers... |

Wow, I waited through 15 years of school to hear that.

Be Careful with your lawyer. I know of so many cases where lawyers here have no clue of the labour laws and actually hurt their client. See my last post about working 6 months, and contact the LB. You might be able to avoid the civil suit and save yourself some time.

I would like to offer a huge thanks to the people that have taken the time to try and help me...I have had numerous supportive/ helpful pms!!!! Honestly- after the efforts of a concerned few- u have restored my faith in humanity. Thankyou...
Now an update on the situation...
I had a contact lawyer and another lawyer talk to me for nearly 2 hours- Yes I have cases with Immigration, the Labor Board and the Tax Office...I have the law on my side- but this country is run on nepotism!! The lawyer said that timing was my biggest issue- to get what I want, I need to play my cards right. Create chaos after I have a more stable situation...He kept reminding me that yes, if I was in a western country I would be set. But, the reality is that I am a foreigner in Korea. And who you know counts for so much more than what you know. He said that even if I pursued my issues at this stage, I was in for a big fight. He told me that I really need to consider what I want out of all this....So I will hold off a bit...but I will not forget!!!!!! |

I don't tend to know everthing about your situation, and can't remember a few details, but I think that the advice above may not be in your best interest. It's always best in Korea to settle things out of court if you can. Get in touch with the labour board right away. As long as you havn't filled a civil suit they can still help you. If you file a suit you are SOL. Its why I told you to be careful with lawyers here. Many don't know the laws and rules, about their own labour system.
1. Go to the labour board. They will contact your boss and tell him your complaint and try to work it out.
2. If 15 days have passed since the problems started they will fill out a form of complaint and either send an officer to him or make him come in for a meeting with you.
3. They'll tell him to pay up. If he doesn't they'll put some presure on him. If he still doens't than you get a lawyer and file a civil suit.
4. The judge makes the final decission as to all matters.
You've skipped steps 1, 2 and 3, which is where 95% of pay problems get resolved in Korea. They also get resolved within a few weeks as a rule, which is better than waiting 6 months.
