I've just been fortunate enough to receive an excellent non-teaching business job. I wouldn't want to be dishonest with my employers, but supposing hypothetically that I left the country before my contract had expired, how likely would I be refused re-entry at cutoms? My new employer's willing to hire me on a tourist visa.
Any and all advice is appreciated. My only concern is that this new job doesn't last, and then I can't work again at least until my first contract would have expired and I gave up a relatively excellent teaching position.

As long as you hand in your ARC when you leave, it's highly unlikely you'll be refused entry when you return. Still better to give your 30 days notice, that's a personal observation. Smile

Yes, as long as you leave "legally" by turning in your ARC and didn't overstay and so on, then you shouldn't really have any problem returning. You could however have some difficulty should you try to get another teaching E-2 visa any time soon (if at all).

You will not be denied reentry on a tourist visa

I'm just curious where you hand in your ARC when you leave?

Handing in your alien ID card does NOT cancel the contract IF you are leaving before the expiration of the contract.
Immigration will not issue a new contract unless the first contract has expired or you have a letter of release.
