In this one class, I have these 2 bastards that sleep through every class. If I wake them up, then they talk to each other the whole time. Today when they came in, I warned them not to sleep or talk. 10 minutes later...zzzzzzz.....

So I went up to them. I hushed the rest of the class. I grabbed a kid whose english is superb, and whispered for him that he was about to translate for extra marks. Then, I picked up and extra chair, and slammed it on top of their desks. When they woke up with a start, this is what I said.

"You two are the most useless students I have ever taught in 4 years. EVER. I dont want you in my class. You are wasting the air that you breath in my classroom. Stand outside. NOW. If any Teacher asks you why you are outside, tell them it is because 'Mr ***** has deemed me too worthless to teach.' And after school, you can come back and sweep and mop my classroom. You will need the practice, because with your effort, you are bound to be Janitors later in life."

It felt good. Now, lets further explain that I had looked into their situations -none had hogwans they attended at night, and they goofed off and slept in every class. School has been in contact with home NUMEROUS times-parents insist thats there's no problems there. So, as much as you may disagree with what I said, I felt it was at least an informed tirade. I have ALWAYS been known as a nice teacher, and it wasnt a bad day that I was having, these were simply bad kids.

Any toppers?

Well, without coming off as sounding like a jerk, I have never felt the need to unload on kids. Confused

LOL that's hilarious to read but in all honesty... they probably don't care what you said to them. I doubt you made any sort of impact.

Personally, I would have let them sleep. At least then they aren't talking and disrupting the class. Smile

I have one middle school class which is terrible. The students don't want to be there and really don't care about learning English. They can really act up at times.

While I wouldn't openly say anything derogatory to a student I like to think that playing sentence hangman has got a couple of them thinking.

I'll use sentences like :

"If you don't study English you will never go to a good university"

"if you don't learn another language you will never leave Korea"

etc ... of course some students still couldn't care less, it's their loss. But if it can make one or two kids think about the importance of learning another language, then I feel I've done my job.

I was really upset when I said Embarassed the worst thing I've ever said to a student:

"You are doing BAD things. Evil or Very Mad Your sister is a great student. But you are not good. Be good."

She was devastated. And for three weeks she avoided saying hello to me on days we didn't have class. But her classroom conduct has been impeccable since my blowup. Even though it had a desired effect, I would take the words back if I could. She already thinks her younger sister is smarter than her in the scheme of sibling rivalry, and I might have damaged her self-image. I hope not.

sleeping in class, thats what you call bad. what do you say when they start climbing out the windows/shouting at people outside bullying other students, calling you names, those are what I consider bad students in korea. I say at least they're there and quiet.

I have had no problems telling students to shut up. I think that it is quite

funny you said what you said. I understand that Korean kids don't want

to learn English, but they can show some respect. I once told a student

that she was an annoyance being in the school (which all the other

teachers agreed on) and if she wasn't able to show respect then don't

come back. I then praised the good students for their good work and

made her look stupid. I had no regrets doing this because she never

came back again and I didn't have to look at her looking like little miss

smart ass again. Some would call this harsh. I don't care, it saved a lot

of hassle in the long run.

I have said some things like: "Get out. Please don't come back. Why are you here? Go to the playground. Go play soccer. If you just want to talk to your friend you and your friend can go outside. Be my guest." Not so terrible usually. Sometimes kids sleep but usually they aren't bad kids or bad students. Often they get too little sleep though. And some classes, like grammar, are not easy to make not boring.

I once said, "Get the *beep* out of my class! Go! You fuckers are wasting my time." It happens every so often. Don't give me any of this..."well, you are supposed to be a teacher" rap. I'm not a real teacher nor do I ever wish to be one. If I have to say such things again, I'll do it....again.
